Heavy Equipment Operator
Objective:
The position of Heavy Equipment Operator contributes to the overall success of a grading or piping crew. The successful candidate for this role will embrace a safe and productive work environment. All work products shall meet or exceed the required contractual requirements. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Responsibilities:
- Ability to enforce and abide by Federal, State, Local, and Company safety policies while completing satisfactory and quality work
- Use PPE while on jobsite e.g. hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection, high visibility vest, steel toe boots, pants, and gloves.
- Ability to maintain a safe work environment for crew members and the public.
- Safely manage productive work in confined spaces and trench excavations.
- Assist in placement, displacement, and moving various traffic control devices
- Ability to operate various types of heavy equipment, including compactors, skid steers, mini-excavators, backhoes, bulldozers, larger excavators, and motor graders at optimum performance.
- Ability to operate (or capacity to learn) GPS equipment systems.
- Competency in grades and understanding of how to read plans and shoot grades from plans.
- Competency in excavating for gravity and pressure pipe.
- Ability lift & carry objects & materials of various weights
- Complete daily maintenance checklist.
- Maintain equipment by keeping it clean and in proper working order.
- Report any damaged or unsafe equipment to foreman immediately, practice safety at all times including driving of company vehicles or equipment.
- Take initiative and anticipate what needs to be done. Shown abilities and willingness to learn and understand your role on the team.
- Recommends measures to improve productions methods, equipment performance, product quality, and crew performance.
- Nights and weekends are required based on project demands.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years heavy equipment operation experience.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals to compute rate, ration, percent, land to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
- Provide crew task-specific leadership.
- Proven record of being a self-starter and able to work under limited supervision.
- Positive attitude towards work.
- Upbeat, enthusiastic attitude toward crew listening to their ideas
- Leads crew by being a positive example. Provides mentorship to younger less experienced employees.
- Driver’s license and safe driving record.
