Position Description:
The Research Fellow will work directly with the Research Director to ensure a seamless flow of the Department’s product and legislative tracking services. In supporting client needs, the Fellow will help research, track, and analyze state legislative activities and policy proposals. This position also includes monitoring and identifying news and trends across key issues for clients and internal use. Additionally, the Fellow will help monitor statewide elections and executive staff changes.
Successful candidates must be adaptable to a changing workload, have strong time and self-management skills, and have initiative to ensure projects are completed on time. Networking and training opportunities will be provided as available. A working understanding of the state-level political process and a passion for policy will set candidates apart. The Fellow will have opportunities to gain first-hand knowledge of client engagement via pre-approved client calls and other supplemental opportunities as they arise.
- Legislative Tracking: The Fellow will handle general legislative tracking topics (for all audiences—ESG, AI, Data Privacy, etc.).
- Newsletters: The Fellow will curate and draft several regular newsletters for the Research Director to review and interns to subsequently write daily.
- Reports: Initial drafting of projects like State of the State Summaries, Session Summaries, and other projects, as needed.
- Election & Staff Tracking: The fellow will assist with tracking for the governor and lieutenant governor SLIMS and initiating new tracking of essential staff changes.
- Internal News: Team newsletter and staff updates, other news areas as requested.
Position Details:
- Timing - Limited Duration: The Fellowship is a one-year position, beginning in late spring or early summer.
- Work Schedule: 40 hours weekly, 9 AM to 5 PM Local Time (if not on the East Coast).
- Pay - $3,000 monthly stipend. The Fellow is not a full-time employee but rather an independent contractor.
