POSITION SUMMARY:
The position is entry-level for the candidate who has little or no work experience in construction safety or formalized training from an accredited higher education location in the field of occupational safety and health.
The successful candidate will assist the project management team with meeting the safety and health requirements of the project, the Assistant Project Safety Administrator (APSA) will report directly to and is under the direct supervision of the Safety Administrator.
The APSA, as a trainee, will assist the project with conducting daily safety inspections, employee training, near-miss incidents and accident investigations, assure compliance to applicable safety laws and regulations, and maintaining all required safety records and documentation. The APSA will also assist the project with all administrative and clerical support necessary to complete safety-related forms, such as workers’ compensation claim processing and other safety-related duties as assigned by the Safety Administrator.
Follows established policies, procedures, and specific instructions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists the project with:
- Daily safety inspections, Environmental Inspections, track compliance.
- Completion of forms and documents to adhere to regulatory requirements, such as HIOSH/OSHA, NFPA, EPA/DOH and any other safety related state and federal standards or regulation.
- Safety meetings and training.
- Near-miss incident and accident investigations.
- Ensuring subcontractor’s compliance to project safety and regulatory requirements.
- Comes to work regularly and on time, follows directions, takes criticism, gets along with co-workers and supervisors, treats co-workers, supervisors and customers with respect and courtesy, and refrains from abusive, insubordinate, or violent behavior.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES (SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS):
Assist the project with:
Cost containment programs: such as workers’ compensation claim processing and return-to-work program.
- Developing Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA).
- Regulatory agencies inspections.
- Project pre-planning of work and safety activities.
- Drug testing requirements of the project under the direction and supervision of the Human Resources Manager
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he/she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
1. High School Graduate.
2. Ability to type accurately using office equipment and PC.
3. 0-1 year of construction experience.
4. OSHA 10 or 30 - Hour Course or equivalent.
5. Occupational safety and health courses are preferred but not required.
6. Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills in dealing with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
7. Working knowledge of personal computer applications (spreadsheet, word processing and database) such as Microsoft Office: Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
8. Ability to identify and assess safety hazards and take corrective action to abate the hazard.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $49,561.28 per year
