CUSTODIAN Job Description
Status: Full-Time/Non-Exempt
Salary: $19-$20/hour
Reports to: Facilities Manager
Definition:
Custodian is responsible for maintaining cleanliness of assigned site. Custodian also responsible for ensuring site is in good repair and report any issues, especially those that can be harmful to students or staff, to both direct supervisor and Site Supervisor.
DUTIES:
- Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using prescribed practices and procedures.
- Clean, dust and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, and/or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash receptacles; replace lightbulbs and other rotatable equipment; refill restroom dispensers and ensure equipment is in working condition.
- Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events and the like.
- Remove, clean, polish and apply floor sealer and floor finish to laminate floors; vacuum and shampoo rugs and carpets.
- Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools including: buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, vacuums, brooms, mops, squeegees and the like.
- Wash walls and keep in clean order; use ladders when required for specific work assignments.
- Lock and unlock assigned buildings and gates; secure premises when facilities are not in use, including checking for unlocked doors and windows; report any unauthorized occupants; turn on/off lights.
- Follow instructions for the proper use of chemical cleaners and supplies; use such only as directed.
- Perform cleaning and related activities such as removing debris from outside walkways, sidewalks and stairs in areas within 16 feet of buildings, in some instances using hand-operated tools or small power equipment.
- Move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools as directed.
- Wash accessible interior and exterior windows; clean blinds; launder cleaning rags and dust mops.
- Respond to emergencies and critical situations as necessary.
- Attend safety meetings and other training sessions on use of new products, new cleaning methods and techniques, and first aid as required.
- Perform errands, such as purchasing materials needed for special events and daycare operations as required.
- Other duties as required by supervisor.
Other Requirements:
- Must be available for flexible work schedule
- Physical ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must have reliable transportation to conduct errands/transport materials, supplies and equipment; such required trips will be eligible for mileage reimbursement.
- Interpersonal skills; attention to detail; ability to comprehend and follow directions; ability to read, write and perform basic calculations; ability to evaluate and innovate routine tasks as necessary; organized.
- TB, Physical, and immunization clearance (to be renewed as required).
- Proof of valid California Driver License and insurance.
- Successful fingerprint/background check clearance.
