The Caminos Teacher Assistant is a hands-on position that works with an instructional team consisting of a special education/general education teacher and other support staff assigned to the classroom or students. This individual provides instructional and behavioral support for the children in a designated classroom using research-based strategies under the day-to-day supervision of the special education or general education teacher. The Teacher Assistant will also assist the teacher with the preparation and reinforcing of classroom instruction. This position may also deliver evidence-based programs designed for support staff under the direction of a teacher.

What is the Caminos Program?
You would be helping children who have recently migrated to the United States and are seeking opportunities for reunification with family as well as the chance to pursue their education and legal immigration cases. What does this job do specifically?

Demonstrate familiarity with cultural patterns existing within a community that may affect the behavior of children and adolescents.

Establish relationships with children and adolescents on a group and individual basis, gaining their trust and confidence.

Accept supervision from the Teacher.

Physically intervene and restrain male students, as necessary.

Able to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.

Establish and maintain a safe classroom environment by implementing behavior management techniques together with the Teacher.

Assist with the planning of the curriculum and, in consultation with the Teacher, implement specific parts of the curriculum.

Substitute teach in the classroom in the absence of the Teacher.

Assist the Teacher in writing and maintaining required records.

Assure that administrative and/or department directives are enforced.

Perform other duties, as requested.

Follow regulations and protocols outlined by the Office of Refugee and Resettlement (ORR).
Hours of Operation for this Position:
This is a Full-Time Position.
Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This position follows Baltimore County School System for inclement weather.
Eligibility
Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education or a related field.
Preferred Education and Experience:
-
Minimum of two years of experience in education, clinical mental health, or related field.

Bilingual in English and Spanish
