JOB TITLE: BILLER-CODER

DEPARTMENT: FINANCE
Position Description: This position is responsible for entering and coding patient services into billable file for electronic transmission to clearinghouse as well as generating patient statements. Sorts and files paperwork, handles insurance claims, and performs collection duties. Under general supervision ensures optimal reimbursement for provider billing. Provides customer service, billing, and timely follow-up, cash application processes, reconciling payer remittance, denial management and appeal functions. Provides financial guidance on self-pay accounts. Interprets and post ERA’s.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other assignments, projects and duties may be assigned.
· Charge capture: Rendering medical services into a billable format.
· Claim Submission: Submitting claims through electronic and paper format via CMS-1500 and UB.
· Coding: Properly coding ICD 10, CPT AND HCPCS Level 1 and 2 codes for maximum reimbursement.
· Insurance verification.
· Process and Post Payments: Payments are processed both electronically and manually.
· Third Party Follow Up: Collecting payments from third-party insurers.
· Review and prepare patient statements monthly.
· Follow up on rejected, denied and un-responded claims.
· Maintain compliance with HIPAA standards at all times.
· Adjustment of Slide Claims.
· Answer patient questions and complaints regarding co-pays, deductibles, write-off’s etc.
Qualifications, Education, and Experience:
· High School graduate or equivalent
· Coding certification or equivalent experience using EMR software and applications
· Ability to obtain CHC coding certification within 3 months of hire. Paid for by CCHS
· Knowledge of medical terminology
· Ability to navigate CPT, ICD-10, HCPC books
· Experience in primary care medical practice a plus
· Ability to communicate effectively with strong verbal, written, and oral communication skills; able to be tactful and positive
· Able to work independently, with minimal supervision
· Strong computer skills and use of Microsoft office applications

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
