GENERAL PURPOSE: Prepares and cooks family style meals for crews or residents and employees of institutions by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Cooks foodstuffs in quantities according to menu and number of persons to be served.
2. Washes dishes.
3. Bakes breads and pastry.
4. Cuts meat.
5. Plans menu, taking advantage of foods in season and local availability.
6. Serves meals.
7. Orders supplies and keeps records and accounts.
8. Directs activities of one or more workers who assist in preparing and serving meals.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

2. Must possess basic mathematical skills with the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.
3. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: One-year certificate from college or technical school, or three to six months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
