Job Description
This position is located in Oklahoma City, OK.
Remote working will NOT be an option for this position.
Basic Purpose
Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving data bases and system administration. This includes database design, implementation and maintenance, security administration, capacity planning, performance tuning and performance monitoring, job scheduling, data backup and recovery, business continuity planning and testing, installing vendor software products, coordination of and responsibility for system availability, ensuring the integrity, confidentiality and security of information.
Major Work Duties
Responsibilities for supporting the OSBI databases and ensuring their performance, availability, and security. This includes rollout, upgrades, and patch implementation management.
Design and document database schemas in conjunction with the development team. Ensures compliance to ITS database standards.
On a daily basis, proactively monitor the database system to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.
Responsible for database backups and recovery planning in conjunction with ITS management.
Responsible for implementation and release of database changes as submitted by the development team.
Trouble shoot minor network and Application problems as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Will consider candidates with the following education/experience:
Associate or bachelor's degree with database specific course work, or
Internship experience assisting with Oracle or other database equivalent administration in a production environment, or
Training courses & certifications in Oracle such as Oracle Database Administration
Preferences
Hands on experience in a production environment:
Oracle 11g, 12c, 19c and higher (11g and 19c preferred)
Experience collaborating with Developers.
Experience implementing change management in a well thought-out and planned approach
Experience with:
Rman
Database backup & recovery
Database design
Database patching experience
Database exports
Migration from older to newer versions of a database or from Oracle
Setting up and maintaining Standby or Mirror Databases
Installing Oracle
Typical Functions
Designs and implements on-line data bases, security access systems, data sets and jobs; defines parameters for file or space utilization; establishes direct access files or other file configurations as required; monitors space utilization and makes modifications as needed.
Create queries, stored procedures, functions and data exports and imports; performs other data management processes utilizing database protocols.
Documents and demonstrates solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code.
Provides applications development and other unit personnel with data base and data security information required to support application development and other activities; supports repository/data base dictionary requirements and activities; develops, implements and monitors control blocks and data definitions to support data bases.
Installs and modifies vendor software products; conducts appropriate tests to ensure compatibility of new or modified programs with operating system requirements; uses data base performance and tuning tools in order to monitor and enhance response times and system performance.
Confers with computer operations, technical support, user and vendor representatives concerning data base requirements, system performance, software maintenance, capacity planning, and data security requirements.
Reviews systems specifications for compliance with departmental, division and data base administration standards.
Responds to data base operational emergencies as required including data base recoveries involving the use of data base log files which provide for the recovery of data bases with no loss of data and which do not require the user to reenter data into the data base.
Level Descriptor
This is the specialist level of this job family where employees are assigned advanced responsibilities for design and maintenance of critical and complex data bases and jobs and the completion of special technical assignments associated with developing data bases and/or data security systems to support various computer applications requirements. This includes positions which are the only Information Systems Data Management position in a data processing division with independent responsibility for all aspects of data base design, maintenance and/or data security. Some responsibilities may be included for providing guidance and training to other programmers or technical personnel in the completion of various applications projects.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level consist of knowledge of information technology; of repository/data dictionary systems; of data security systems; and of database maintenance utilities. Ability is required to apply data processing analysis techniques; to resolve and prevent database integrity problems; to communicate effectively; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and to perform highly independent work in the design, analysis and maintenance of database and/or data security systems.
