POSITION SUMMARY - The Procurement Specialist ensures company purchases represent the most favorable price consistent with quantity, quality, specification requirements, delivery and reliability of source. Analyzes quotations received and selects supplier. Interviews prospective vendors. Supervises the preparation of purchase orders from requisitions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Procurement Specialist be responsible for:
- Locates qualified sources for materials, equipment and services of a technical or specialized nature to support the needs or requirements of the requestor. Responsible for locating or promotion possible new sources of supply. Keeps abreast of market trends, changes in business practices in assigned markets, new or altered types of materials entering the market, etc.
- Purchases highly complex and technical items, materials or services which may be specially designed; or may purchase modifications of standard and common usage items or materials including stipulations about unusual packaging, marking, shipping etc. May purchase items that deviate from the usual or from past experience in terms of prices, quality of items, quantities or that may set precedents for future purchases.
- Interacts with retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers and distributors to maintain good vendor relationships. Works closely with key personnel to develop and establish inventory and quality standards for material, components and supply requirements.
- May supervise or coordinate expediting personnel to ensure expedition of shipments from sources and subcontractors meet scheduled requirements of procurement contracts.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a minimum of 4 years of working experience
- Strong knowledge of the industry and market conditions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Impeccable negotiation and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and rapport building
CERTIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Requires a high school diploma and a minimum of 4 years procurement experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. No significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.
WORKING HOURS
- 40 hours per week- 8:00am -4:30pm 3/4 days in office, 1/2 days telework
