Position Summary:
The Member Services Representative is responsible for providing exceptional service to the credit union’s membership in accordance with policies, principles, and procedures established by the credit union’s board of directors.
Responsible for assisting members with their banking needs, including opening new accounts, maintaining existing accounts, and consumer lending; analyzes loan requests and makes credit decisions within granted lending authority and based on established credit union underwriting standards, procedures, and regulations.
Underwrites consumer loans by interviewing applicants, reviewing credit reports, application data and collateral, if applicable, to approve, counteroffer or deny loan requests.
Regularly communicates by telephone, email or in-person with members, automobile dealers and others.
Responsible for meeting production and performance standards as well as delivering the highest level of member service. Cross-sells additional credit union and ancillary products to meet member needs.
Maintains a positive attitude and conducts business in a professional manner. Assures that all members, employees, and visitors are treated with consideration and respect.
Minimum Qualifications/Experience:
- High School diploma required; Undergraduate degree in a business-related field preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience in the financial services industry preferred.
- Knowledge of consumer lending, including mortgage lending.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Bondable.
- Familiarity with loan promotions and marketing practices.
- Able to prioritize tasks, deal effectively with competing and changing priorities, and meet deadlines.
- General knowledge and understanding of Credit Union products, services, policies, and procedures.
- Must demonstrate a functional knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job responsibilities.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills, including phone skills, in order to interact professionally and effectively with members and employees.
- Must be able to work under limited supervision.
- Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills; Detail-oriented.
- Demonstrated/verifiable ability to maintain high standards in areas of accuracy, thoroughness, completeness and neatness of documentation, data entry, and correspondence.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in a climate-controlled shared work environment with moderate noise.
- Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs.
- Must be capable of occasionally climbing/descending a ladder or stairs.
- Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator.
- Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day.
- Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management.
- Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Job Requirements/Responsibilities:
- Perform job duties in accordance with policies established by the Credit Union Board of Directors under the rules and regulations set by the National Credit Union Administration.
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, time-management, and organizational skills with high degree of accuracy.
- Complete knowledge of all credit union products and services.
- Strong communication, negotiating, and problem-solving skills.
- Interact with employees and members in an effective, professional, and personable manner.
- Recommend member exceptions and service fee refunds to members when necessary.
- Gather background information on loan applicants by interviewing loan applicants and obtaining credit bureau reports.
- Assist members with the loan application process to ensure completeness of information.
- Pull credit reports, verify debts, estimate monthly payments for any outstanding debts not listed and add them to debts on application; calculate debt-to-income ratios on loan applicants.
- Complete loan applications over the phone and/or electronically.
- Determine collateral needs and payment plans for members applying for loans.
- Determine eligibility of loan co-maker from co-maker’s statement and credit rating.
- Approve or deny loan applications within prescribed guidelines.
- When a loan is denied, explain reasons for denial in a professional, courteous manner; Provide recommendations or alternative options for other possible ways to secure a loan in the future.
- Verify the accuracy of loan amounts and repayment terms on approved loan applications.
- Complete loan documents and disburse loans when approved.
- Implement new loan products and services in accordance with management direction.
- Cross-sell lending and other credit union products.
- Open new accounts; process account transactions.
- Record all transactions promptly, accurately and in compliance with credit union policies and procedures.
- Perform specialized tasks such as preparing cashier's checks.
- Perform services for members such as ordering debit cards and checks.
- Receive, verify, and post loan payments.
- Assist in other areas of the credit union as needed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.29 - $26.51 per hour
Expected hours: 38 – 42 per week
