Job Summary
You must be a current UK student to apply to this position. This position is located off-campus with a local Lexington employer and is not affiliated with UK.
86-year-old retired professor in memory care needs a conversational companion, for individual sessions of 2-3 hours in the mornings or afternoons. She is living in a full-service memory care facility in Lexington, which takes care of all her physical and many of her emotional needs in a secure environment, but she could use additional conversational companionship. She enjoys sitting outside in the courtyard talking about the birds, reading through a book and discussing ideas one paragraph at a time, or talking about her parents and children. Familiarity with dementia related to Alzheimer’s, passion for reading and discussing ideas, especially ideas related to work in the humanities and humanities-adjacent social sciences would be beneficial. Undergraduate and Graduate students are invited to apply.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Knowledge of any one of a number of fields and subjects, including Anthropology, Sociology, Political Science, Philosophy, English, History, Gender and Women’s Studies, Critical Race Theory, Wealth Inequality, etc.
