Job description - Assistant Coach, Women's Volleyball
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Athletics
SUNY Westchester Athletics is seeking an enthusiastic, committed and motivated Assistant Coach for our Women's Volleyball Team. Successful candidates must be willing to administer all aspects of practices, trainings and competitions. This position will stress building our team with top talent on an annual basis. Special consideration will be given those with experience with and enthusiasm for recruiting prospective student athletes. The ideal candidate would be someone to supplement their income and gain experience as a college coach, or someone with coaching experience with the flexibility to arrange their schedule to be at practices and games.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Director of Athletics and the Head Women's Volleyball Coach, the Assistant Coach is responsible for leading, administering and managing all aspects of a competitive varsity women's volleyball program. In addition, the following responsibilities are also included:
Responsibilities of all coaches include but are not limited to:
- Training and teaching the student athletes in the techniques and strategies of volleyball along with the core values of sportsmanship, integrity and positive conduct
- Driving to and from athletic contests in team vans where applicable.
- Recruiting and retention of quality student-athletes
- Assisting with academic support and continuing eligibility of student-athletes
- Assisting with equipment management
- Reporting game scores and competition results and statistics where applicable
- Coordinating of transportation, requesting meal money, entry fees, travel itinerary, compiling stats, & other duties as assigned
- Communicating with athletic staff and student athletes
- Attend scheduled staff & coaches meetings
- Developing and attending community service events
- Attending annual Athletic Banquet (early to mid-May)
- Adhering to policies set forth in by the NJCAA, Westchester Community College and in the WCC Athletics Coach’s Handbook
The ideal candidate will have previous college coaching and/or playing experience at the NJCAA Division III, NCAA or NAIA level or higher. They must also possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills, communicate effectively (verbal and written), have the ability to multi-task and operate within an extremely motivated, team oriented atmosphere. Additional responsibilities will also be assigned by the Director of Athletics when necessary.
This is a part-time, seasonal position with year round responsibilities yet the bulk of the workload is associated with the fall season. This position requires a strong emphasis on the recruitment of academically qualified and motivated student-athletes.
