TheWrap is seeking a highly skilled film editor with significant industry experience, connections and knowhow. The film editor should be ready to direct and tackle film and film industry news and reporting with a passion for the film business.
The ideal candidate is well-sourced, experienced, innately curious about the business of Hollywood and capable of steering a team of skilled writers and reporters towards stories that need to be told. A love of movies is a must.
The film editor will manage TheWrap’s coverage of the film industry, including major moves at the studios, breaking industry news, festival coverage and film reviews. This is a player/coach role and the film editor is expected to report and write stories alongside film reporters.
Your copy should be clean, clever and conversational.
Knowledge of AP style and love of a good headline is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, energetic and capable of multitasking in a real-time news environment.
This is a full-time position that is currently in a hybrid work-from-home model requiring two days per week in TheWrap’s Los Angeles office.
Required skills:
- At least 5 years experience editing and writing about film for professional outlets. Management experience strongly preferred
- Strong sourcing in the film industry
- The ability to report out stories from scratch, including ideating, source-building and confirming scoops
- Superior news judgment, with a passion for the business of film
- Sharp source-building and a drive to tell insider stories about the industry
- Proficient and speedy on a CMS such as WordPress
- Ability to crop photographs
- SEO and social media savvy
This is a Los Angeles-based position. Typical salary range is $90,000 – $100,000, experience dependent.
