PARKS AND RECREATION DIRECTOR
The Nicholasville-Jessamine County Parks and Recreation will accept applications to fill the position of Parks and Recreation Director. The starting annual salary for this position falls within the $70,000 to $95,000 range. The hiring rate will be determined during the final step of the hiring process.
Nicholasville Jessamine County Parks and Recreation is seeking a highly qualified and dedicated individual to join our team as the Director of Parks and Recreation. As a department focused on promoting the well-being of our community, our Parks and Recreation department plays a crucial role in providing accessible and sustainable recreational opportunities for all residents. This is a full-time exempt position with a comprehensive benefit plan that includes health, vision and dental coverage on date of hire, accidental death & dismemberment insurance, life insurance, state retirement and company vehicle.
The Director of Parks and Recreation will be responsible for overseeing the planning, development, and maintenance of our parks, facilities, programs and staff. Applicants must be able to attend meetings and events after normal working hours on a regular basis. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky as a condition of continued employment in the position.
Bachelor's degree in business, marketing and/or parks and recreation, public administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred -or- at least 4 years of experience in a leadership role in parks and recreation management or a related field. Additional work experience may be substituted for education requirements on a year per year basis, up to a maximum of 4 years.

Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for the position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
● Develop and implement strategies to enhance the recreational facilities and programs offered in our community.
● Supervise and manage a team of employees, providing guidance and support to ensure efficient operations and high-quality services.
● Create detailed work plans, department policies including, but not limited to staff training, risk management, turf management, facility rental, league/charter agreements, and operational policies of the department.
● Collaborate with community stakeholders, elected officials, Jessamine County Board of Education, Nicholasville-Jessamine County Parks and Rec Board, and other government agencies to identify and prioritize initiatives that align with our parks and recreation goals.
● Develop and manage the department's annual budget, including forecasting and monitoring expenditures. As well as developing short- and long-term goals and objectives for the department.
● Conduct regular assessments of park facilities and amenities to identify and address maintenance and improvement needs.
● Promote community engagement and participation in parks and recreation programs through effective outreach and marketing efforts.
● Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and safety standards to ensure the well-being of park visitors and program participants.
● Directs the organizing of special events, sports leagues, and other special programs held throughout the year.
● Attends local, state and national conferences and workshops to keep abreast of the latest trends and developments in Parks and recreation, and to improve professional skills.
● Prepares and directs the preparation of administrative reports, grant applications and other required paperwork.
● Maintain open and regular communication with the NJCPR Board of Directors.
Requirements
● Bachelor's degree in business, marketing and/or parks and recreation, public administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred -or- at least 4 years of experience in a leadership role in parks and recreation management or a related field. ● Strong knowledge of parks and recreation best practices, trends, and emerging issues.
● Proven experience in strategic planning, budget management, and staff supervision.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
● Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and safety standards related to parks and recreation operations.
● Ability to think critically, analyze data, and make informed decisions that align with the department's goals and objectives.
● Familiarity with facility scheduling software/ programs (i.e.: Rec Desk)
● Desired Certifications- Certified Parks and Recreation Professional, Certified Parks and Recreation Executive, Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, or other Certifications in Parks and Recreation relevant to the position.
Physical Requirements
● Physical Requirements of the Job: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors; however, most work is completed indoors. Must lift light objects (up to 25 pounds); must operate vehicles; exposed to machinery and its moving parts; exposed to high places; must use ladders and stairs; exposed to fumes, chemicals and toxic substances.
● Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze budget and activity data and figures, operate a computer, and be able to inspect the work of others. An employee must also be able to visit parks and recreation sites to observe construction or activities.
