Job Position: Community Health Worker, part time

Position Overview
FARE is seeking a part-time Community Health Worker as part of its FARE Health Equity Initiative launching in the Hampton Roads area of VA this fall.
CAP works to close the gaps in education and awareness of food allergy among under resourced and underserved communities. Through partnership with community organizations, the program aims to deliver culturally appropriate strategies for awareness-building and access to care, to include, but not limited to, distribution of resources, educational workshops, and training.
The time commitment is 10 to 20 hours per month for at least 12 months. Must be available weekends and evenings, as needed.
This is a contractor position, and the pay is $50/hr.
Estimated start date: as soon as filled.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as FARE’s local representative in the Hampton Roads/Norfolk, VA area, working with community members, stakeholders, and partners including Eastern Viriginia Medical School and Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters.
- Staff resource table at community events, answering questions and handing out materials.
- Assist in the cultivation of community partnerships and activities/events that FARE can be part of.
Required Education, Knowledge, and Skills
- Graduate of a Community Health Worker certification program (or similar).
- At least two years of experience in community health activities in underserved populations.
- Knowledge of the Hampton Roads/Norfolk community, including stakeholders in the healthcare, education, faith, and non-profit community.
- Ability to work independently.
- Comfortable with public speaking.
- Knowledge of food allergy preferred but not required.
