Summary
The Windows Systems Engineer will be a hands-on member tasked with the on-going maintenance, development, functionality, and stability of the company’s network.
Essential Functions

- Document and analyze software and hardware issues.
- Design, test, and implement systems solutions.
- Research software and hardware products and prepare purchase orders.
- Provide support for business-critical systems at the highest level.
- Direct troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common system problems; analyze system events to ensure continuous functioning. Recommends course of action and implements as approved by Director.
- Upgrade system software and hardware components as required to meet business needs; verifies backups.
- Ensure upgrades occur in accordance with established parameters.
- Coordinate the installation of department specific applications and systems. Determines appropriate method for installing applications and systems; resolve matters of significance and implements corrective course of action as needed.
- Utilizes help desk to record change and problem activities for tracking purposes.
- Maintain both physical and virtual servers.
- Manage system infrastructure including databases, testing computer equipment, malware and other software and hardware.
- Provide technical support for both hardware and software issues that may arise.
- Monitor the system daily and respond quickly to any security breaches or usability concerns.
- Backup systems and verify that backups have been completed.
- Regularly upgrade systems as needed.
- Assist in integrating new applications and technologies into the current system.
- Participate in on-call responsibilities.
- Installation and updates of workstation and peripheral software
- Assist with recovery from application and network outages.
- Assist with ensuring workstation security compliance.
- Administrative activities include workstation naming, IP addressing and configuration management.
- Assist with data recovery from failed hard drives and corrupted files.
- Provide support for remote network access and VPN configuration for teleworkers.
- Provide support for antivirus and antimalware software.

Required Education/Experience/Skills
- Bachelor’s degree; or high school diploma with equivalent experience
- 3+ years’ experience in a Help Desk environment managing system infrastructure, testing, and troubleshooting computer equipment and malware
- 3+ years of troubleshooting / support experience with Windows
- Solid knowledge of network (TCP/IP) and file sharing concepts (SMB, AFP, NFS, FTP)
- Working knowledge of Windows 10, Windows Server, AD (active directory), Microsoft 365, Entra ID, VMware, Avamar, or similar backup systems
- Experience patching/maintaining systems
- Storage experience – SAN / Synology
- Self-starter, able to multi-task, and operate in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills with end users and team members
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills
- Scripting experience
- Experience with Apple
Work Environment
- This is an on-site position with possible remote work opportunities as approved by management.
Physical Demands
The physical requirements of this position are described as light work. Light work involves:
Lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls.
