Position: Library Clerk Typist
Building Assignment: School Library
Supervisor: Librarian/Building Principal
Qualifications:
Education: high school graduate, preferably supplemented by business school training
Experience: successful experience in general office and secretarial work
Alternatives: can effectively prioritize tasks; Can acquire additional skills deemed necessary by the Penns Valley Area School District Board of Directors
Can demonstrate an aptitude for doing the work listed below using appropriate methods, materials, technology and office equipment; Can demonstrate effective and efficient office skills; Can do any bookkeeping work assigned, after proper instruction, using accurate figures and calculations; Can relate well with other school employees, with students and with the visiting public; Can understand and follow directions; Can perform assigned tasks with thoroughness, initiative, responsibility and accountability; Can readily adapt to changing situations.
Job Summary:
Provide clerical support as assigned.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Open library and start all computers the first day of each week
- Check library materials in and out of the library
- Maintain confidentiality of all communications, transactions and materials
- Sign student passes for access to the library
- Assist in maintaining library collection of books, magazines, videos, and DVD’s
- Assist groups and individuals in locating and obtaining materials
- Assist teachers in signing out materials for classroom use (i.e. document cameras, laptop computers, etc.)
- Provide telephone support
- Add information to the district website pertaining to the school as instructed by the librarian/principal
- Prepare requisitions for all purchasing of library materials and supplies
- Help prepare library correspondence
- Process all new materials and supplies once received and follow up with suppliers on items not received or received damaged
- Add and delete books from ACCESS Pennsylvania
- Fulfill interlibrary loan requests via ACCESS PA Power Library
- Enroll new library patrons in the barcode system
- Maintain Follett Library system (circulation computer and OPAC)
- Prepare ID cards for students who have lost their cards, new students and staff
- Collect money for fines, damaged materials, lost books and new library cards
- Notify technology support of students who have forgotten their computer password
- Assist students with classroom activities
- Maintain operation of fax machine and printers (load paper, change ink cartridges, assist in troubleshooting, and monitor excessive student printing and sends and receives Fax’s).
- Shelve books using the Dewey Decimal System
- Assist with inventory of books and materials
- Print statistics each day, end of month and end of year from circulation system
- File publisher and vendor catalogs and various papers for future use
- Keep track of inventories for supplies
- Inspect materials for damage and repair as needed
- Keep track of money received from varied resources and forward for deposit to general fund in the administrative office
- Help substitutes become familiar with library procedures and training of volunteers
- Assist with the overall appearance and tidiness of the library
- Perform backup of circulation computer and shut down computers the close of school the end of each week
- Assist in other building clerical duties as assigned by the building principal
- Perform other duties deemed necessary by the librarian and/or building principal.
