Position Description
Landscape Architect I
Target Entry Salary: $68,449 - $75,293 DOQ
Landscape Architect II
Target Entry Salary: $75,465 - $83,011 DOQ
POSITION OPEN UNTIL FILLED
Under limited direction, the Landscape Architect position provides advanced professional and technical work in the design, development, and implementation of landscaping for the City owned properties and other open public spaces development projects.
Current recruitment is for our Public Works department.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Prepares, creates, reviews, and revises master landscape design, construction plans, and related documents utilizing conventional business and design methods and related computer software; implements the use of AutoCAD and other design software.
- Creates and designs conceptual landscape and irrigation sketches and drawings from field observations to prepare plans for park entrances, trail systems, and overall layouts for trees, shrubs, and ground covers on various City properties. Manages the City's Tree Bank fund.
- Conducts and performs site evaluations, including the inventory and grading of existing trees for preservation or removal during redevelopment or construction projects; performs tree assessment and determines protection or removal; provides tree conservation and preservation work.
- Gathers, consolidates, interprets, and evaluates technical data; researches and compiles engineering information for use in conceptual study and design preparation; prepares and reviews landscape designs and sites to ensure compliance with applicable zoning and land development codes.
- Reviews documents and sites to ensure landscape designs are in compliance with applicable zoning and development codes; provides other project management.
Prepares, drafts, edits, and reviews project specifications, scope of work, bills of materials, and construction estimates.
- Assists, supports, and participates in construction observation, note-taking, and photography at job sites to ensure adherence to approved construction documents.
- Obtains requests for proposals, develops purchase requisitions and purchase orders, and obtains permits and applications for water meters as necessary.
- Coordinates, collaborates, and works with other landscape architects, planners, engineers, general contractors, developers, property owners, vendor representatives, and the general public as necessary to collect data and resolve technical issues, questions, and concerns.

Minimum Qualifications
Landscape Architect I
Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver's license is required.
Landscape Architectural Registration Examination (LARE) is required.
International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certification or eligible of acquiring it within two (2) years of employment.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture, or related field AND one (1) years professional experience in preparing commercial landscape plans; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Landscape Architect II
Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver's license is required.
Landscape Architectural Registration Examination (LARE) is required.
International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certification or eligible of acquiring it within two (2) years of employment.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture, or related field AND four (4) years professional experience in preparing commercial landscape plans; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
