Overview:
The Loretto Community is composed of the Sisters of Loretto and Co-Members who are committed to working for justice because the Gospel urges us. This position will work in the Archives, including our Heritage Center. The Loretto Community has professionally maintained its archive since the 1890s, and has objects from its founding in 1812 until the present day.
The Loretto Community Archive is located in Nerinx, KY, approximately one and a half hours outside of Louisville, KY. This is an on-site position.
Duties:
- Complete archival appraisals for items submitted into collections
- Arrange and describe document collections according to professional archival standards including creating detailed finding aids
- Process and preserve audio/visual, photographs, and born-digital media
- Appraise, catalog, inventory, and preserve artifact collection
- Perform museum docent duties including overseeing guests and providing tours to large groups
- Develop exhibits and assist with public programs
- Develop blog and social media content
- Participate in archival, public history, and religious network collaborations
- Provide reference support for the Loretto Community and public researchers, including supervising visiting researchers
- Supervise volunteers, interns, and staff doing archival work
This position offers a unique and challenging opportunity for an experienced Archivist. The qualified candidate will possess:
· Master’s degree or equivalent in Public History, Library Science with an archival concentration, or archives related degree.
· 1 year of combined experience through internship, work study, or other practical involvement
· Previous experience with budgets, project management and change management;
· A strong sense of responsibility, confidentiality, and collegiality;
