High Sky is currently seeking contractors to plan, design, implement, and conduct life skills training for youth aging out of the foster care system. If you have a passion for helping others and experience in the classroom, we would love to hear from you.
Special Circumstances:
This is a contract position, not an employee. Classes are offered three times per year during spring, summer, and fall break from school.
Payment includes:
- $300 per class day, including planning, prepping, and delivery of 8-10 hours per day. Reimbursement for 1/2 day of class (4 hours) is $150.
- Mileage reimbursement, at the rate of the State of Texas, for car travel to and from the training location, if the classes are held in a location that exceeds 50 miles from the Contractor’s residence.
- During training classes, lodging will be provided and arranged by High Sky, if the classes are held in a location that exceeds 50 miles from the Contractor’s residence.
- Breakfast and lunch will be provided during Training Classes
- Dinner will be provided for overnight stays if the classes are held in a location that exceeds 50 miles from the Contractor’s residence. Tips and delivery fees will not be reimbursed.
Responsibilities
- Learning and implementing the DFPS PAL curriculum and core elements for training.
- Plan and prepare lessons for core elements to provide youth with opportunities to learn through various methods (ex. group discussion, media, activities, etc.).
- Schedule and coordinate guest speakers and experiential outings, as needed.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and a trauma-informed approach in interactions.
- Deliver material related to social, academic, and independent living skills.
- Help youth discover their strengths and identify their shortcomings and provide suggestions for improvements.
- Maintain situational awareness and constant supervision of the class to provide a safe, controlled learning environment.
- Proactively address potential challenges or issues, mitigating risk and problem-solving to prevent or diffuse future challenges.
- Transport youth using a High Sky vehicle to experiential outings during classes, as needed.
- Complete required reports for each youth referred to classes.
- Maintain compliance with all High Sky Policies, procedures and requirements and conditions of the DFPS Contract for Life Skills Training.
- Requires the ability to communicate on a collegiate level, both orally and written, as required by the contract guidelines.
- Notify High Sky in advance of any notable change in the contractor’s name, address, license (if applicable), complaints, or any other information that would affect the agreement with High Sky.
- Comply with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations, whether federal, state, or local, including without limitation, the federal and any state Occupational Safety and Health Act and Worker’s Compensation Acts including, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the ACA Code of Ethics, High Sky Children’s Ranch’s Policy to not engage in discrimination or harassment based on any protected class. This includes but is not limited to, promoting personal religious beliefs or shaming clients who do not conform to personal beliefs.
- Bill High Sky for services rendered only after a class is complete and required documentation and reports have been completed and submitted to the Director.
- Obtain advance approval for any additional services that are not listed in this agreement.
- Pay all business, payroll, property, income, and other taxes due upon or in connection with the operation of its independent business.
- Refrain from doing anything which would tend to discredit, dishonor, or reflect adversely upon or in any way injure the good name or business of High Sky.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- 2 years of experience working with youth who may be aggressive or in crisis, in group facilitation or classroom training.
- 1 year of experience working with a culturally diverse population
- Must be able to provide community or client references that show a positive past performance and client success.
- Maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and vehicle liability insurance and supply a copy to High Sky upon request.
- Ability to develop rapport with youth.
- Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/AED/First Aid certification
