Italian Village Restaurants is hiring a People, Community, & Culture (PCC) Manager for Italian Village, a complex of 3 historic, family-owned-and-operated restaurants.
The PCC Manager will lead all people-management activities and initiatives of the business, including, but not limited to: compliance with local, state and federal employment laws, candidate sourcing, hiring, on-boarding, training, payroll, compensation/benefits, performance management, and professional development. They will work most closely day-to-day with the operations team and family ownership. They will have administrative support from a multi-functional admin role as well as the rest of the leadership team.
Please note while this role is largely a Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm role (or similar schedule), there may be events or occasions that require modification of this schedule such as being available for calls regarding People/HR emergencies, hiring events, training events, or other team events.
Ideal Candidate will be:
- Generalist HR professional with SHRM or PHR certification, similar advanced HR degree/certification, or willingness to complete certification within 3-6 months of employment
- Experienced with People/HR within the retail, hospitality, or restaurant industries
- Experienced with restaurant-specific HRIS and Payroll software
- Technically savvy and comfortable with computer software and systems (Microsoft 365, Toast, 7shifts, Resy), or the ability to quickly learn.
- Able to communicate clearly and comfortably with a largely Spanish-speaking team through Spanish language proficiency or proficient use of technology.
- Excited to make an impact on an iconic Chicago restaurant and help lead a transition involving a generational change in leadership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic HR Leadership:
- Work closely with senior management to identify and address HR-related challenges and opportunities
- Serve as a key business partner to the owners and the operations leadership, ensuring people strategies are in place to enable success
- Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the overall business goals of the restaurants
- Build and maintain a strategic people plan for the organization
Employee Relations:
- Foster a positive work environment and culture that reflects our Values
- Design, implement, and administer HR policies and procedures across the organization
- Address employee concerns and grievances in a fair and timely manner
- Create and implement an employee appreciation program for milestone anniversaries
- Create, implement, and analyze an annual employee satisfaction survey
- Organize and lead employee events (e.g., annual holiday party, retirement events, anniversary events, appreciation events, birthday events), with assistance from admin and leadership team
Performance Management:
- Design, implement, and maintain performance management programs to incentivize employees and drive professional development across all levels of the organization
- Provide guidance to managers on performance evaluations, feedback, and improvement plans
Compliance & Legal:
- Partner with legal counsel and operations leadership to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws
- Keep abreast of changes and developments of labor and employment laws, rules and regulations
- Ensure HR policies, employee handbook, on-boarding documents, and procedures are compliant with applicable laws
- Investigate employee complaints
- Complete regulatory filings as required
Training & Development:
- Evaluate, select, and implement a Learning Management System (LMS) with support of operations team and leadership
- Partner with operations team to develop and maintain training & development materials
- Support career development initiatives to enhance employee skills and capabilities
HR Metrics & Reporting:
- Establish HR metrics that measure the effectiveness of people initiatives and people performance, both general and restaurant-specific
- Provide regular reports including insights and recommendations to leadership on people trends, challenges, and opportunities
- Provide regular reports related to benefits eligibility, server performance, and new hires
Other Qualifications:
- Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse constituencies
- At least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions well and accept constructive feedback on job performance
- Ability to communicate scheduling needs, software/equipment issues, and any other concerns with direct manager
- Openness to work flexible hours, depending on company needs
- Note: Regular schedule is generally Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm job. However, due to the nature of the position and our business operations, the ability to work outside of this schedule is required, such as People/HR emergencies, special events, hiring events, training events, and team eventsAbility to perform tasks in a timely and efficient manner with a focus on quality
- Ability to multitask and prioritize
Education & Experience:
- A 2-year or 4-year degree at an accredited college or university, or at least 4 years experience as an HR professional, preferred
- SHRM or PHR certification, or similar advanced HR degree/certification, preferred
- Experienced with People/HR within the retail, hospitality, or restaurant industries, preferred
- Spanish language proficiency not required, but preferred
- Experienced with restaurant-specific HRIS and Payroll software
- Proficient with key information technology systems (i.e., Microsoft 365, Toast, 7shifts, Resy)
Working Conditions:
- Ability to stand for up to 8 hours daily
- Ability to walk up and down 3 flights of stairs as needed to perform tasks
- At times, ability to reach up to 6 feet overhead
- Ability or bend over and stoop to the ground
- At times, ability to work in spaces with slick, often wet floors in a careful manner
- At times, ability to work in a confined, crowded, fast-moving space with high noise and light levels
Compensation
Salary Range: $70-85K/annually, based on experience + bonus
