Fire Systems Technician Overview

Role:
We are currently seeking a Fire Systems Technician for Sundance Square. Interested candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of related experience in the fire systems field and working knowledge of NFPA-25 and local regulations. This includes a good working knowledge of fire suppression systems and proper licensing to conduct repairs and inspections. Applicants will be expected to be able to perform code complaint inspections, progressive inspections, above ceiling inspections, and concealed inspections and complete and maintain documentation associated with the inspections and repairs of the fire systems. Applicants must have knowledge of all routine and preventive maintenance on fire protection systems, experience to conduct in-house repairs, troubleshoot, and determine what is needed to resolve issues associated with the fire systems. In-house repairs include replacement of sprinkler heads and other damaged and non- functioning components of the fire suppression systems and alarm panels.
The Fire Systems Technician shall have a working knowledge of the operation of the fire alarm systems that are interfaced with the suppression systems and be able to trouble shoot and repair issues. In addition, the technician shall perform investigations of outages as prescribed in divisional/departmental procedures of the fire suppression systems and determine what valves need to be closed to perform the outage task. The technician shall be able to ensure proper operation of the Fire and Life Safety Systems and be able to read and interpret prints and other technical documentation essential to inspecting and completing Fire life and Safety projects.
The sprinkler technician shall be willing to be on call, be willing to assist other crafts and perform other duties as assigned and needed.
The primary duties of this position include but are not limited to:
· Inspecting, maintaining, and servicing fire extinguishers in over 1 million square feet of office, retail, and residential space in 36 blocks in downtown Fort Worth.
· Conduct routine preventative maintenance and repairs of wet, dry, and pre-action sprinkler fire suppression systems.
· Installation, troubleshooting, and programming of fire life safety and other low voltage systems in commercial buildings
· Testing of fire pumps
· Installing pipe systems and valves
· Maintaining records of work performed on fire sprinkler system, testing of systems, and conducting inspections.
· Inspecting sprinkler systems and fire systems to determine compliance with NFPA-25 & local regulations.
· Training other employees in the use of fire extinguishers and other equipment used for fire suppression.
· Working with architects and contractors to determine placement of fire sprinklers.
· Responding to fire emergencies and operating fire suppression equipment.
· Conducting fire drills.
· Installing new fire extinguishers in public places; operating fire extinguishers
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Qualifications):
· Applicants must meet requirements in relation to background and driving record.
· Valid driver’s license.
· Five (5) years related experience.
· Working knowledge of NFPA-25 and local regulations
· Licensed by State Fire Marshal/Texas Department of Insurance with at least one of the following licenses:
o Type PL Planning (EPL)
o Type A Fixed System (FEL-A
o Optional: Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) license from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
