THE POSITION:
Our CFO seeks to hire a candidate whose prior accounting experience encompasses management oversight of all accounting and financial statement reporting activities, including budget tracking, analysis and reporting on organization operations. In addition, responsibilities include cross-functional collaboration working with grants to ensure adherence to grantor guidelines, requirements, and budgets.
When you join the team, some of the essential work and responsibilities you will manage and handle will include:
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
- Maintain internal control compliance and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures
- Coordinate and provide financial related materials for all audit activity
- Consistently analyze accounting data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner
- Clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; monitor accounting group progress and operational changes, and keep CFO abreast of CC’s accounting activity and potential issues
- Review and analyze financial statements, comparing actual results to the budget with a focus to identify and explain variances, and provide recommendations for appropriate responsive actions to variances
- Support the CFO in engaging the Board Finance and Audit Committee around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery
- Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants
- Manage program cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the program senior leadership and CFO; continuously collaborate with program management to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations
- Develop expenditure tracking tools to help program managers expend funds in compliance with program requirements and accurately report grant expenditures
- Develop monthly updates to contract expenditure projections to efficiently and effectively manage the expenditure process to comply with program spending authorizations
- Provide analytical support and training to program managers to increase their capabilities to understand and effectively utilize the cost management information and tools.
Grant Lifecycle Management, Reporting and Audits
- Collaborate with grants managers and department managers to ensure accountability systems are in place that adhere to grant requirements
- Monitor relevant grant data collection process and associated analytics to ensure progress-monitoring systems are efficient and effective
- Collaborate with Program leadership and other internal stakeholders to ensure an integrated approach to the delivery of programmatic services and to ensure the needs of all grantors are efficiently met.
- Cultivate professional relationships with grantors through open communications, fulfilling reporting obligations, and demonstrating accountability to ensure grant success and to secure future funding opportunities.
- Serve as an expert on grant requirements, including Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements.
- Ensure accountabilities are assigned to ensure accurate and timely reporting to grantors and internal stakeholders to measure grant impact.
- Serve as Finance lead on grant audits, inclusive of financial reconciliation and documentation submission to grantors.

THE MUST HAVES:
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Accounting; advanced Accounting degree preferred
- Minimum 6+ years of senior financial management experience with at least 4 years managing an accounting department, preferably within a non-profit
- Mastery of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), internal controls and financial reporting
- Familiarity with specialized non-profit industry accounting practices, reporting requirements and procedures preferred.
- A strong understanding of finance and accounting practices relating to donor and grants management preferred
- Demonstrated annual budget and audit preparation experience
- Experience in determining project feasibility and costing of services preferred
- Proficiency in clearly communicating information about finances and accounting issues to non-accountants and individuals with varying levels of financial expertise
- Significant experience with allocations of shared costs preferred
- Strong quantitative analysis capabilities, with the ability to read, analyze, interpret and explain complex financial data
- Possess strong financial acumen to produce and maintain accurate financial records and prepare clear and accurate reports for informational, auditing, and operational use
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in organizing and managing documentation, data, and reporting.
- Strong organization and project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Financial software experience (i.e. Sage, Yooz helpful)
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Teams)
- Email/communications/scheduling software (Outlook) experience.
- Experience utilizing virtual platforms such as ZOOM, TEAMS, etc., a plus
- Must be able to work a 40 hour, Monday Friday schedule
- Schedule flexibility to accommodate occasional weekday evening hours and weekend hours
- Must have reliable, personal transportation because this position requires driving to different locations throughout the greater Houston area
- A valid Texas Driver’s License, and current vehicle insurance coverage

- Mileage reimbursement paid at IRS rate is available for eligible business travel.
- Work hours: Flexible scheduling. Some remote work at home and attendance at in-person meetings..
- Compensation: This is an Exempt, Salaried, Full-Time position. Paid bi-weekly on Fridays.
- Annual Merit Adjustments: Increase to base pay is based on the prior year’s performance.
