POSITION DESCRIPTION
JOB DESCRIPTION: Intake/Admission Nurse – Full-Time
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Admission Manager
POSITION SUPERVISED: None
QUALIFICATIONS/CREDIENTIALS:
1) Valid State of Ohio RN license
2) Knowledge of chemical dependency, disease concept, 12 step programs.
3) Preferred minimum two years’ experience working in a treatment center or subacute detoxification unit.
4) Has a clear understanding of subacute detoxification treatment protocols.
5) Computer competency and typing skills.
6) Works 72-80 hours a pay period on days with a flexible schedule. This includes 1-2 weekends per month.
7) Willingness to work with a team of staff members to provide patient care.
BASIC FUNCTION:
The intake admission nurse provides timely and thorough admission assessment and reports this to the unit nursing staff or other clinical levels of care. The admissions nurse also initiates the intake process for all inquiries and schedules incoming clients. Combined, these activities support the overall daily census goal of the programs offered at Stella Maris.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
1. Ability to complete nursing admission assessments and prepare treatment plan.
2. Contact the physician on call and obtain clinical orders based on results of urine toxicology screening as well as objective and subjective information.
3. Complete medication reconciliation including entering all home medications and obtaining orders from the physician to continue during detoxification or other services.
4. Completion of requirements for annual agency training compliance.
5. Upon initial completion of the admission process, the nurse is responsible for a visual search of the client while changing into detoxification unit regulation scrubs and a thorough search of the client’s street attire and belongings.
6. Following client hand off to the detoxification technician, the admission nurse gives a full verbal report to the detoxification unit floor nurse including the doctor’s orders any pertinent client information that may have a direct bearing on their successful treatment.
7. Retrieves all voice mails and contacts potential clients as needed for phone screening then enters all appropriate referral information into Sigmund.
8. Works in tandem with floor nurse and intake team consisting of nursing and counseling staff.
SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS
- Ability to greet new patients, conduct orientation and answer basic questions regarding the programs offered in a professional manner.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to obtaining urine specimens and pregnancy tests when necessary.
- Ability to respond to medical and other emergencies and notify appropriate administrative staff. Document observation of any incidents that occur.
- Ability to respond to urgent patient issues or crises.
- Ability to answer the phone and assist callers.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other staff/disciplines as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to uphold patient rights and confidentiality regulations.
- Ability to navigate the eMAR system.
- Ability to type fast and efficiently.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Performs other duties of the position and within the individual’s capabilities as assigned by his/her supervisor.
