HEAVY DUTY DIESEL MECHANIC

Here, you’ll do preventative maintenance and minor repairs on the newest and best-maintained fleet of vehicles in the industry. You will help our drivers keep their vehicles in shape and on the road so that they may provide service and products to our customers.
POSITION SUMMARY: The diesel mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring that diesel-powered vehicles and machinery operate safely and efficiently by diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues, performing routine maintenance tasks, and collaborating with other mechanics and stakeholders to ensure that vehicles and machinery are properly maintained and repaired.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Utilizing automotive diagnostic equipment, diagnoses, maintains, and repairs vehicle automative systems including engine, transmission, electrical, steering, suspension, brakes, and HVAC. Performs work specified with work orders which may include:
o Tire rotation
o Wheel alignment
o Oil change
o Fluid checks
o Safety inspection
o Filer Replacement
o Transmissions
o Brakes
o Fuel systems
· Provides emergency /unscheduled repairs of equipment and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of equipment.
· Fabricates or modifies parts as needed
· Conducts routine inspection to identify worn and damaged parts
· Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
· Ensures that the required documentation is complete and is in compliance with regulations and standards.
· Helps maintain shop appearance and safety standards and ensures the shop runs in an efficient manner by performing duties such as inventory stocking and other general functions.
· Follows all shop policy, procedure, safety, and environmental rules.
· Complies with OSHA safety and health rules
· Provides excellent customer service by addressing customer (internal and external) concerns and answering questions
· Performs other duties as assigned or needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Proficiency in using power tools and automotive diagnostic equipment
· Excellent critical thinking skills, attention to detail and strong work ethic
· Working knowledge of diesel engines, including Paccar and Detroit engines
· Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
· Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
· High School Diploma or Equivalent, with at least 2 years’ relative experience. Possession of a certificate from a technical institute (to include BOCES) a plus
· Proven experience as a diesel mechanic, automotive technician, or similar role

This position is required to work in an area that is dusty and may be exposed to occasional diesel fumes.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 45 per week
