Job Description
The OTR Load Planner position manages daily load planning for the over the road trucks and drivers, along with ensuring superior customer service to several shippers. This position is responsible for the day-to-day effective coordination of a fleet of trucks, trailers, and drivers. The planner will solicit business from customers, book business from customers and make daily plans for picking up the freight from customer shipping locations. This position will need to work with driver managers to ensure schedules are maintained and make adjustments as needed when schedules might need to be changed due to various circumstances. This position will enter customer orders with detail into the TMS for sending accurate information to the drivers. This position will need to provide superior service to the customers to maintain the business with the customers, with the intent to grow the business. The Planner will need to track customer service stats, maintain accurate trailer pool information at customer sites, be aware of driver schedules and be able to problem solve.
Roles, Responsibilities & Skills Needed
- Create daily plans for trucks, trailers and drivers
- Communicate daily with and provide superior customer service to internal & external customers
- Solicit customers and internal account managers for additional business and make decisions on whether to accept business or not
- Track performance metrics for customers, drivers and owner operators
- Be able to make decisions in daily planning process to include problem solving and having to make alternate plans as needed
- Talk to drivers and owner operators as needed in back up role to Driver Managers and as escalation point for various issues that may arise with Driver Managers and drivers
- Become proficient with the TMS to navigate and use the system efficiently
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to multi-task between planning, securing business and providing customer service
- Understand DOT regulations and hours of service rules and ability to incorporate the rules
- Support a culture of “can do” attitude to enhance team efforts toward continuous improvement, maximize utilization of the fleet and superior customer service

Minimum Requirements
- Associates Degree - Bachelors Degree preferred
- Understanding of trucking/logistics transportation operations
- 2 years of OTR trucking/transportation operations experience
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Expert proficiency with Microsoft products, software systems and internet navigation
- Ability to multi-task to meet deadlines and personal as well as company goals
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to track communications across a multi-task environment
- After-hours availability for on-call and/or as issues/needs arise
