Paraprofessional
An ESS paraprofessional assists the classroom teacher to provide extra support to students with special needs, promoting maximum academic and personal growth. Paraprofessionals play a critical role in shaping our students' futures by working closely with teachers to support them in their duties. Works under direct supervision of a teacher to monitor students and perform a variety of clerical and classroom tasks. Paraprofessionals may work in a self-contained/specialized classroom, one-on-one with a student, or in a regular education setting.
Essential Functions:

Assists assigned classroom teachers in conducting instructional programs and other instructional/developmental activities

Distributes and collects materials, sets up classroom for instructional projects and sets up and operates audiovisual equipment

Provides individual or small group tutoring to students, reinforcing learning concepts as directed by the teacher

Performs other classroom or school-wide clerical tasks such as preparing, compiling or making copies of instructional materials and reports, typing and filing classroom or student records, or distributing and inventorying textbooks and other instructional materials as assigned

Takes attendance and collects forms, proctors exams, and scores objecting tests

Assists students with personal and hygienic care

Reinforces lessons initiated by the teacher

Help maintain order and discipline in the classroom, ensuring a positive and productive learning environment

Provide support to students with special needs, following Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and accommodations

Assists teacher with classroom behavior management
-
Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work assigned by the teacher

Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students, school staff, and school programs

Serves as a source of information to help assigned substitute teachers

Monitor students during activities such as recess, lunch, and field trips.

Participates in in-service training as needed

Alerts the teacher of any problem or special information regarding students
Other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher, director of special education or building principal

Minimum Qualifications:
Skills, Experience and Education:

High school diploma

Patience and ability to work with children, young adults, faculty members and parents

Sensitivity to physical and mental disabilities and how they affect the behavior of children
