Job Title: Adult Trauma Specialist

The Institute for Health and Recovery (IHR) is a statewide service, research, policy, program development and capacity building agency. IHR designs its services based on an understanding of the impact of trauma. IHR’s CARF accredited treatment programs provide holistic interventions for hard to reach and high-risk individuals and families. IHR’s mission, since our founding in 1989, has been to develop and support a comprehensive continuum of care for families, individuals, youth, and pregnant and parenting people affected by alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, violence/trauma, mental health challenges and other health issues, while advancing principles of health equity and social justice. Our work is focused on addressing and eradicating inequities in our health care, economic, and justice systems, especially as they disproportionately affect women and people of color. Summary Statement: The Adult Trauma Specialist focuses on assisting various behavioral health, medical, human service and justice programs to become trauma-informed as well as develop trauma-specific services and provides trauma integration assessments, training and technical assistance to various organizations.
Essential Functions:
- Work with behavioral health, medical, human service and justice organizations to enhance their ability to provide trauma-informed and trauma-specific services
- Plan and conduct targeted training regarding trauma that incorporates recent research and evidence-based approaches
- Provide consultations and technical assistance to behavioral health, medical, human service and justice organizations that supports their implementation of trauma-informed care
- Conduct assessments of behavioral health, medical, human service and justice programs to determine their strengths and weaknesses with regard to providing trauma-informed and trauma-specific services
- Develop curricula for web-based and other training that supports the implementation of trauma-informed and trauma-specific services
- Provide training on trauma-informed interventions (such as Seeking Safety, Helping Men Recover)
- Provide trauma-informed interventions in a train-the-trainer format
- Assist staff of service organizations in identifying and developing relationships with organizations in their communities that can provide additional trauma/violence services
- Collect and utilize feedback and evaluations to improve, update, and add new content to trauma trainings
- Work closely with the Director of Adult Trauma Services and other members of the trauma team
- Provide content input to the development of web-based trauma training resources
- Communicate with IHR’s main office in Watertown with cloud-based shared calendars, timesheets and check in with supervisors.

Qualifications/Requirements:
- Advanced degree in social work, mental health, psychology or related field , with particular emphasis on trauma, substance use and co-occurring disorders; clinical license (LICSW, LMHC) preferred.
- 5-7 years’ experience in the field of substance abuse, trauma, mental health.
- Lived experience of substance use and/or trauma recovery a plus
- Experience delivering and training others in trauma interventions
- Strong understanding of harm reduction, substance use disorders, and substance use disorder treatment
- Experience providing training and hands on technical assistance and consultation, particularly in the implementation of evidence-based practices
- Experience in implementing clinical systems enhancements aimed at facilitating organizational system change.
- Awareness of treatment resources in Massachusetts
- Excellent communication skills
- Willingness to travel throughout the state on a regular basis and out of state occasionally
