Casa Betsaida Programs provides Housing and case management services to clients with HIV.
STATEMENT OF THE JOB:
Under the direction of the Residential Supervisor, the Cook has responsibility for the ordering, preparation and serving of meals to residents of Casa Betsaida while complying with NYC City Health Codes in the process. The Cook is also part of the Casa Betsaida Treatment team, and as such is responsible for communicating any unusual events which may occur with residents as he or she is carrying out the functions of their job.
The Cook will be required to maintain a professional and ethical disposition at all times. The Cook ensures the rights, safety and approved care of all residents by implementing best practices in accordance with the guidelines implemented by the Agency. The agency has embraced the concept of a fully integrated system of care for all clients of service. This requires that the staff to assess the client's needs holistically and see it as their responsibility to connect the client with services needed--internal or external to the agency, regardless of the door to which the client entered the system.
* Preparing meals which reflect the cultural diversity of the residents served.
* Monitoring food service for nutritional quality.
* Insuring secure and sanitary storage of all provisions.
* Prepare and post weekly menus for breakfast and dinner.
* Assist with the maintenance of all kitchen utensils and kitchen equipment.
* Prepare purchase orders to maintain an adequate supply of food at all times.
* Upon eligibility, complete all necessary documents to obtain/retain appropriate credentials, certifications and licenses.
* Participate in the on-call duty roster for coverage.
* Actively participate in weekly supervision and staff meetings.
* Reporting to Behavioral Health Services Administration and/or Agency Administration issues that may have a negative impact on the reputation of the Agency, client and/or staff welfare or any corporate compliance issue.
* Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Position requires a (BA/BS) in nutrition or a current Certificate in Food Protection, with at least five (5) years commercial cooking experience.
* Must have proficiency in English (reading, writing and speaking).
* Able to supervise kitchen staff and volunteers
* Able to prepare culturally diverse meals
* Knowledge of all Health and Sanitary Codes.
* Knowledge of USDA’s Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the New York City Food Standards
* Computer literate, Word, Excel, Internet
* Able to lift 25 lbs.
* Able to stand for long periods of time
* Able to use commercial ovens, steam tables, slicing machine and food processor
* Able to stretch and bend and lift food trays in and out of oven
* Able to occasional climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch
* Ability to work flexible hours, according to the needs of program operation.
* Ability to travel throughout the five boroughs as needed or required.
