Aegis Aerospace is currently looking for a Human Performance Engineer to join our team in Houston, TX.
Overview
The primary function of this position is to support the Applied Injury Biomechanics (AIB) team at NASA's Johnson Space Center. The Applied Injury Biomechanics Lab (AIB) is leading an effort to protect crew from suited injuries, and working with providers to protect the crew from injury due to vehicle dynamics, and to certify the vehicles are ready for human flight. This can include assessment of suit & seat design, assessing a range of vehicle dynamics, establishing new injury metrics for crash dummies and using them in sled tests, full vehicle drop tests, and model simulations to help certify vehicles. Work on suited injury mitigation includes tracking all suited exposures, modeling the human and the suit, development of injury scales & estimating consequence & likelihood, assessing incapacitated Crew rescue needs, and suit requirement verification. This position would involve working with the AIB team to collect and analyze human performance and impact data, and to present this data to Program and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Work with AIB Technical Leads to plan and implement operational evaluations to assess biomechanics and risk of injury
Assist with preparation of support documentation for studies, including Institutional Review Board protocols, test plans, test readiness review packages, etc.
Assist with updating of MATLAB code for data processing and analysis
Assist with updating and assessing standards documentation and vehicle requirements
Perform equipment set-up, calibration, and monitoring for tests/evaluations
Carry out experiments with human test subjects
Assist with reduction and analysis of test data, including appropriate statistical methods
Prepare technical reports, manuscripts, and presentations
Present technical results at internal meetings and scientific conferences
Archive data per NASA policy
Provide inputs to weekly and monthly status reports
Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Company’s safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel
Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies and procedures
Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by the Company
Responsible for completing all assigned training
Demonstrate a positive problem-solving attitude with an enthusiasm for working as part of an exceptional team
Demonstrate a strong work ethic and commitment to the customer and team
Serve as a test subject for protocol and hardware evaluations on a volunteer basis
Perform other duties as assigned
Required
- Must be a US citizen or lawful permanent resident
- Bachelor’s degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering or a related engineering field
Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member; employee will be required to work and communicate with human test subjects, astronauts, and personnel across multiple JSC directorates
Highly motivated with developed organizational skills and ability to support multiple projects
Attention to detail
Understanding of human performance capabilities and human-system interactions
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both formal and informal
Strong, demonstrated programming skills including MATLAB or Python
Standard PC and Microsoft Office skills for preparation of documents and presentations
Desired
Experience with NASA standards and requirements or similar experience with a broad set of human factors, ergonomics, and anthropometry requirements
Experience conducting or supporting human health and performance research
Knowledge of occupational musculoskeletal disorders/injurie
Experience with motion capture systems and analysis of kinematic data
Experience with bioinstrumentation and data acquisition systems
Knowledge of statistical analysis methods
