Job Title: Medical Technologist
The Medical Technologist performs complex diagnostic tests and procedures in a clinical laboratory setting. This role requires advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques, analytical skills, and the ability to ensure accurate and timely test results. The Medical Technologist collaborates with healthcare professionals to support patient care through precise laboratory testing and analysis.
- Diagnostic Testing:
- Perform a wide range of laboratory tests in areas including hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, and blood banking.
- Interpret test results and provide accurate data for diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain advanced laboratory equipment, including analyzers, microscopes, and centrifuges.
- Quality Assurance:
- Conduct quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
- Monitor and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Participate in proficiency testing, quality assurance, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Specimen Handling:
- Collect, process, and store specimens following established protocols.
- Ensure the integrity and proper labeling of specimens for accurate test results.
- Data Management:
- Record test results and maintain detailed documentation in electronic health records (EHR) and laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Review and validate test results before reporting to physicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
- Adhere to regulatory requirements and standards set by CAP, CLIA, and OSHA.
- Properly manage and dispose of biohazardous materials.
- Communication:
- Communicate test results, methodologies, and issues to physicians, supervisors, and other healthcare professionals.
- Provide guidance and training to laboratory staff and new employees.
- Professional Development:
- Stay updated with advancements in laboratory science through continuing education and professional development.
- Participate in laboratory meetings, training sessions, and educational activities.
- Experience: Minimum of 1+ year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
- Certifications:
- Medical Technologist (MT) certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Skills:
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in performing tests and analyzing results.
- Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.

- Advanced Certification: Specialist certifications in areas such as microbiology, hematology, or blood banking are a plus.
- Technical Skills: Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
