Job Description: Front Desk Associate -- Part Time
Department: Front Desk
Immediate Supervisor: Front Desk Manager and General Manager
1 year of hotel experience is strongly preferred or 3 years in customer service however, not required. All associates receive training on site. Must maintain a flexible availability. Mandatory to work weekends and holidays. Associates will start $17.00/ hour. Part time associates may earn up to 40 hours.
Job Summary:
- Looking for energetic, courteous, helpful and professional individuals. Associates will need to be responsible for checking guest in and out of the Hotel, making reservations, assisting with general information. Complete shift check list as required by Front Desk Manager. Maintain Holiday Inn Express and Suites high standards of service, be brand oriented at all times and provide great hospitality. Provide the highest quality of service to the customer at all times.
Job Requirements:
- Must be able to multitask efficiently on a consistent basis
- Must be able to recover service and ready to respond to guests complaints
- Must be able to deliver flawless execution of service in highly demanding environment
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Some College/University preferred
- Must have excellent communication skills
- Knowledge of using an adding machine
- Ability to understand and carry out instructions
- Must be able to type 30+ wpm
- Must have a minimum of 3 years of customer service professional experience
- Must be able to maintain a professional manner under stress
- Must be able to answer questions about the hotel and the area
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)
- Must be Flexible and available to work any shift.
- Must be able to carry 30-50 lbs.
- Must be available work weekends and holidays is mandatory.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities Include:
1. Promptly and effectively deal with guest complaints and requests (helping with directions, recommending restaurants and or activities).
2. Check guests in and out efficiently and in a friendly manner.
3. Post guest charges and compute guest bill using OPERA, collect payment and make change for hotel guests.
4. Following all cash handling procedures as required by Marriott.
5. Handle guest mail and messages per established procedures.
6. Be knowledgeable, enroll and promote Marriott Rewards Program.
7. Develop a thorough knowledge of room locations, room rates, amenities, and selling strategies.
8. Take reservations effectively.
9. Answer switchboard with standards of proper telephone etiquette.
10. Block rooms and handle special requests.
11. Monitor room availability and house room inventory.
12. Handle safe deposit boxes used by guests per established procedures.
13. Keep lobby and desk area clean and presentable.
14. Have a thorough knowledge of emergency and security procedures.
15. Offer and properly handle requests for wake-up calls.
16. Ensure all rooms are checked in properly and a valid method of payment is collected.
17. Communicate with incoming staff and management by logging pertinent information in the passed on in the logbook consistently and effectively.
18. Correspond emails on a regular basis to management.
19. Keep maintenance informed of all maintenance needs.
20. Must wear and maintain clean, pressed, uniform at all times in accordance with IHG Standards.
21. Practice safety standards at all times.
22. Associate must adhere to all work rules, procedures, and policies established by the company, including, but not limited to those contained in the associate handbook and brand standards.
23. Perform all duties as indicated in the shift checklist report.
24. Participate in any sales lead generator (will vary by property).
25. Communicate with housekeeping on any issues, guest request, early arrivals, late departures and any additional pertinent information.
