Inova Oakville Surgery Center located at 400 Fannon St. Alexandria VA, is currently hiring Full-Time (5x8) and Part-Time (2x8) experienced Registered Nurses (RN) to oversee the screening and communication process with patients prior to surgery. The ideal candidate will possess robust critical nursing assessment skills. This position will be onsite.

The Inova Oakville Ambulatory Surgery Center, situated in the Potomac Yards area of Alexandria, is nearing completion in its construction phase. This cutting-edge facility will be a cornerstone of the newly established Inova medical campus, scheduled for inauguration in mid-2024.
Boasting state-of-the-art infrastructure, the center will feature three (3) Operating Rooms, (3) Procedure/GI Suites, and 12 PreOp/PACU bays, all geared towards delivering top-tier medical services to our community.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Day shift only, no nights, weekends, call, or holidays

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
-
Contact patients prior to surgery for initial assessment of patient needs
-
Complete pre-op phone assessment to include but is not limited to:
-
Verification of surgery date, time, expected arrival time, and procedure
-
Health history of the Surgical Patient
-
NPO instructions as per anesthesia pre-op orders
-
Any individualized instructions pertinent to patient’s surgery or history
-
Consult with Medical Director/Chief of Anesthesia on any special needs depending on health history
-
Notify patient and surgeon/PCP of any pre-op lab or EKG needs
-
Coordinate with surgeon’s office and patient’s PCP to obtain necessary lab results before admission
-
Acquire current History and Physical from PCP/surgeon prior to admission
-
Continuously monitor the schedule for any changes on a daily basis
-
Communicate any patient special needs (blood sugar, disabilities, anxiety) to the Charge Nurse and/or PreOp/PACU Nurse Managers
-
Provide the pre-op phone assessment sheets to the Reception/Admission Specialist for the next days' patient records

Coordinate with Anesthesia and Pre-op/PACU Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse the pre-admission needs of patients

Assist patients with any questions which may arise during the pre-admission period
EXPERIENCE YOU'LL NEED:
-
Two or more years of experience as a Pre-Operative Assessment RN
-
Previous experience in PreOp/PACU is highly desirable
-
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, with a preference for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree

Active licensure as a Registered Nurse in Virginia
-
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
-
Familiarity with contemporary outpatient surgical practices and trends

Strong oral and written communication abilities

Proficient telephone etiquette
-
Basic computer literacy
-
