Position: Tractor/Trailer Mechanic
Schedule: Monday-Friday (7AM-4PM)
Job purpose: Is to maintain company owned vehicles in accordance with manufacture and company standards and exceeding industry safety standards. To ensure that vehicle down time is below industries averages and that employee and shop safety is their number one focus.
Tractor-Trailer Mechanic - Diagnoses mechanical failures and repairs tractors and tractor components according to manuals, factory specifications, and knowledge of engine performances, using hand tools, power tools, and testing instruments: Attaches compression, ignition, and timing test instruments to certain parts of tractor, using clamps and hand tools.
Starts engine dials and reads meters and gauges of testing equipment to diagnose engine malfunction. Removes and disassembles engine, transmission, and clutches, using hoists, jacks, and mechanic's hand tools. Inspects parts for damage, and verifies dimensions and clearances of parts for conformance to factory specifications, using gauges, such as calipers, and micrometers. Replaces or repairs worn or damaged parts. Grinds valves, relines and adjusts brakes, tightens body bolts, aligns wheels, and tunes engine. May weld defective body or frame parts. Diagnoses mechanical failures and repairs refrigeration units according to manuals, factory specifications, and knowledge of refrigeration unit components, performance, and coordinates with technicians from manufacture to reduce/eliminate unit down time.
Duties:
- Conducting scheduled inspections and checks of all transport trailer vehicles.
- Maintaining refrigeration units on climate control trailers.
- Maintaining shoots on climate control trailers, ensuring they are properly attached and are not torn.
- Regular servicing and maintenance of all vehicles.
- Maintaining a service record of all vehicles.
- Interacting with the drivers to understand about the functionality and issues of the vehicle.
- Interacting with customer service-dispatchers to coordinate and schedule the rotation of tractors and trailers into the shop for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
- Replacing parts and conducting repairs and tire changes for the vehicles.
- Placing orders for spare parts and filing necessary purchase order documentation for the same.
- Appropriately using as well as handling testing and diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Test driving vehicles to ensure that they are functioning and operating appropriately.
- Complying with all local, state and federal regulations to maintain a safe workplace and the handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Performing all work to company standards maintaining high productivity levels while providing high quality work.
