The Optical Division at the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging, Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School is looking for an enthusiastic candidate to join our team as a postdoctoral Research Fellow and help us advance the state of the art of optical breast cancer imaging. In particular, the successful candidate will focus on developing and validating the next-generation multimodal optical and X-ray imaging of breast cancer patients and will have outstanding opportunities to gain experience in clinical translation research as well as the technical aspects of optical imaging, clinical X-ray mammography, and deep-learning based image processing. The appointment as a Harvard Medical School Research Fellow will be for one year initially, with the possibility of extension depending on performance and continued availability of funding. Duties / Responsibilities
Developing and validating the next-generation multimodal optical and X-ray imaging of breast cancer patients and will have outstanding opportunities to gain experience in clinical translation research as well as the technical aspects of optical imaging, clinical X-ray mammography, and deep-learning based image processing.
Additional Skills/Abilities/Competencies: This job requires a candidate who is mature, motivated, and responsible with excellent organizational and people skills. The successful candidate should be capable of independent problem-solving/troubleshooting, prioritizing multiple tasks, and meeting strict deadlines. The research fellow is also expected to be able to work flexible hours as this job may require working before and/or after clinical hours.
EDUCATION:
Required: PhD
Field of study:
A quantitative scientific background, such as Biomedical Engineering, (Medical) Physics, Electrical Engineering, etc. Preference will be given to candidates with hands-on optical system development skills, and/or good programming skills (MATLAB, Python, C/C++, R), and/or prior experience with data acquisition/processing in preclinical and clinical studies. Knowledge or research experience in near-infrared optical imaging and image reconstruction techniques (either finite element or deep learning-based) is a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work will be done at the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging located in the Charleston Navy Yard.
