Role/Purpose
The Lead Teacher in the Children’s House (3-6) Montessori classroom or Toddler Community (16mo - 3 years) works collaboratively with an Assistant Teacher and a small staff of assistant teachers and aides to oversee and execute all aspects of a high fidelity year-round Montessori learning environment.
Position Responsibilities:
- Plan individual and small group Montessori activities to stimulate growth in all Early Childhood Indicators of Progress as outlined by the MN Department of Education
- Develop and plan instructional activities, daily lesson plans, and / or individual learning plans as required by the learning needs of the students
- Prepare a Montessori learning environment that meets the needs of current students
- Maintain current and research based knowledge of child development
- Supervise, Guide, and Review Assistant Teachers and Classroom Aides
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with other MSM employees
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee the work of classroom assistants, aids, families, and volunteers
- Maintain and update weekly lesson plans
- Maintain records, as required by the Minnesota Department of Education, Minnesota DHS Licensing, and Accrediting organizations
- Remain up to date with current licensing requirements and ensure that classroom is compliant
- Maintain regular family communication, including regular newsletters, individual communications and, at least, two conferences annually
- Maintain accurate and complete student records
- Use formal Montessori observation tools to develop classroom environment and individual student learning plans
- Participate in extracurricular activities and events
- Promote family involvement
- Maintain healthy boundaries and equitable relationships that respect each child as an individual
- Maintain professional competencies and participate in professional development
- Responsible for appropriate adult coverage in classroom
- Coordinate and track emergency drills
- Track classroom illnesses
- Work collaboratively with the Director to maintain the vision and mission of MSM
- Maintain financial records for classroom expenses 2
- Ensure successful child transitions from one classroom to another
- Make decisions in emergency situations in the absence of the Director
- Other duties as needed to successfully maintain a licensed Montessori learning environment
Essential Functions and Competencies:
- Qualified as a Lead Teacher under MN Department of Human Services Licensing Guidelines

Education and Experience:
- BA or BS in education or related field
- AMS or AMI Montessori Certified
Required Work Schedule:
- This is a 1.0 FTE year-round position that includes time off while the school is closed for holidays. This position begins with 40 hours of PTO annually, with one day of PTO added for each year of service.

Pay: $42,419.00 - $48,410.00 per year
