We are looking for a Certified Medical Coder with experience in any of the following: Surgery, PMR, orthopedic, podiatry, E&M, neurology, dermatology, plastic surgery
Please note the following requirements BEFORE applying:
- Certification from AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders), or AHIMA is required.
- We are not able to accept "Certificate of Graduation” from a Medical Billing & Coding School as "Certified"
Works independently on a daily basis responsible for the abstracting and coding of medical records and assigning codes with a high degree of accuracy.
Essential Functions:
Performs such activities as:
- Coordinates with clinical staff to assure documentation supports CPT and ICD 10 codes.
- Appropriately codes procedures performed and selects specific diagnosis codes from documentation. Including proper use of modifiers.
- Verifies and completes charge entry in database and produces billing.
- Works with billing staff to support follow-up on bundled services, denials related to medical necessity, and reviews all appeals to assure documentation supports coding.
- Provide training to physicians and staff to improve coding outcome.
Additional responsibilities: * Assist other employees with any additional work when idle
- Under direction of the supervisor, conducts on the job training for new employees
- May perform work of a higher level in preparation for increased responsibility
- Must be willing to perform any duties asked by management or physicians
- Cross trained to fill in other positions when short staffed
- Always maintain a professional attitude and appearance via in person or phone.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Minimum 1 year coding experience
- ICD-10/CPT knowledge
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of medical insurance
- Ability to type accurately and comfortable with computers
- Become a key contributor to the enhancement of the quality of patient care as a necessary part of a medical team.
- Understand and observe legal concepts (e.g. HIPAA, confidentiality)
- Multi-task efficiently and effectively as required.
- Work under pressure, within time constraints. Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation.
Physical Requirements: * Ability to stand, sit. walk, bend and stoop for prolonged periods of time, intermittently throughout an 8 hour shift.
Education and Experience: * Certified Professional Coder CPC, or AHIMA required!
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $32.00 per hour
