Langdale Forest Products Co. is a subsidiary of The Langdale Company, a family-owned corporation that was established in 1894, that is also headquartered in Valdosta, GA and employees around 1,200 people. Langdale Forest Products is a modern lumber manufacturing facility that primarily produces dimensional (2") lumber. Internal departments include the Sawmill, Continuous Dry Kilns, a Planer Mill, Shipping, Maintenance, Electrical and Fabrication Departments. Our production capacity is around 200 MMBF/year. In addition to lumber production, we operate an on-site transportation company, LANCO Trucking, that delivers our finished products. Our company motto is “Quality and Service Since 1894". JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION/TITLE: SAFETY COORDINATOR
LOCATION: Primarily Barnesville, GA Facility
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Safety / Administration
REPORTS TO: EH&S Coordinator
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Supports and assists EH&S Coordinator in all areas involving Safety, with potential responsibility involving Environmental Compliance.
SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES:
l. Supports and assists EH&S Coordinator in all areas of Safety compliance, primarily at Barnesville, GA facility, with addition responsibility at other facilities as directed. This includes, but is not limited to:
2. Routine observation of all operational aspects of a 180 acre manufacturing facility, and promotion of safety awareness and compliance with employees.
3. Plant-wide safety inspections and coordination of required contract inspections (overhead crane, fall arrest, etc.).
4. Oversees plant-wide fire prevention (sprinkler systems, fire hydrants, fire extinguishers, inspections and training).
5. Performs monthly and annual safety training.
6. Assists front line supervisors with weekly safety (toolbox) training.
7. Assists with development, implementation and review of safety programs.
8. Potential to support and assist management in areas of environmental compliance.
9. Responsible for being present and on time.
SECONDARY JOB DUTIES
1. Miscellaneous project management as directed by EH&S Coordinator.
2. Any and all other job functions as seen fit by management.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
Degree/experience in Safety management. Experience in wood products, particularly wood manufacturing is beneficial
Extensive knowledge (or the ability to develop) of all related safety regulations
Extensive knowledge (or ability to develop) of solid wood manufacturing Computer literate with ability to effectively collect data (in field and office) and produce reports as well as to derive appropriate information from a personal computer
Manual/Physical Skills:
Ability to stand for extended periods while conducting training and evaluations
Ability to walk extensively on uneven terrain for extended periods while observing operations and conducting inspections
Ability to negotiate all areas of manufacturing facility, which requires extensive walking, climbing (catwalks and various types of ladders), bending, stooping, twisting, squatting and kneeling
Ability to operate car/truck. Must have good driving record and appropriate operator's license
Ability to work in all types of weather
Ability to tolerate working in dusty conditions
Communication Skills:
Must have excellent ability to communicate orally and in writing to highly varied educational levels
Hours of Work:
45-50 hours per week with additional time as required
