Student Assistance Program Counselors
Second Growth is looking for qualified candidates who enjoy working with students and have the education and experience to fill openings for Student Assistance Program Counselors in VT. Second Growth will provide training in evidence-based curriculum to prepare staff to work in local schools where they will support students in many ways including prevention education, conflict resolution, behavioral supports, crisis intervention, and by addressing risk factors related to bullying and substance misuse. In collaboration with school staff and district administrators, SAP Counselors will provide school-wide prevention education, individual and group support for students, and consultation with school staff, parents, and caregivers. SAP Counselors will aim to ensure that students have support outside the school when needed by reaching out to parents, recommending additional resources, or by referring students to a higher level of care. Student Assistance Counselors may periodically be asked to engage with students on virtual/remote platforms. Salary is commensurate with experience, education, and credentials.
Responsibilities:
The selected candidates will fill full-time positions in local schools during the academic year, and will work in our Youth Programs during school vacations and in the summer.
· Provide age-appropriate supportive services to individual students in elementary-, middle- or high school. Issues addressed will involve behaviors, relationships, and prevention education.
· Provide prevention education in group or classroom settings as requested by school administrators and staff. These classes may be related to social media, bullying prevention, substance misuse, suicide prevention, or other important and topical issues.
· Work with faculty and staff to coordinate and provide education and support for students.
· Facilitate a variety of groups as needed.
· Conduct assessments, provide early intervention and counseling, and/or refer students to external providers as needed.
· Attend periodic student services meetings with school staff for review of students and to plan appropriate interventions.
· Participate in community education events as directed by school administration such as open house or parents' nights.
· Regularly attend supervision arranged by Second Growth and in the company of other practitioners to gain perspective, advice, and for problem solving. The selected candidates will be licensed by the State where school district resides, have a clinical license, or will take steps to acquire the appropriate license or certification within the first year of employment. Experience working in a school setting and with at-risk youth is preferred.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
· Undergraduate degree in education, psychology, sociology, or a related field is required.
· If not otherwise licensed, candidates will begin the process to earn a professional license or certification within one year of employment.
· Holding a license as a Mental Health Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, Alcohol and Drug Counselor, or Certified Prevention Specialist is highly valued for this position.
· Successful candidates will maintain high ethical standards and will be organized, self-directed, and demonstrate effective communication and problem-solving skills.
· Candidates will be able to seek out opportunities to get to know students within the school setting through participation in school sponsored events.
· Criminal background checks, licensing verification, and personal references are required for all positions at Second Growth.

Pay: $22.00 - $30.00 per hour
