SUMMARY
New Los Angeles Charter Schools (New LA) is seeking a night custodian for New Los Angeles Middle School. We are seeking someone who is trustworthy and reliable. Someone who is able to work independently.
This position will work from 3pm to 9:30pm, Monday through Friday. This position will begin on August 19, 2024.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting and working closely with the School Operations Manager (SOM), the Custodian is responsible for day to day maintenance of the school. Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:
Responsibilities
● Maintain school building and grounds in top condition;
● Provide ongoing minor building maintenance and repairs;
● Coordinate with School Operations Manager on major building and grounds repairs;
● Ensure a safe facility;
● Event set up and breakdown;
● Support with morning and afternoon carline;
● Support the vision and mission of New LA Charter School.
● Clean and maintain indoor and outdoor areas of the school facilities
● Sweep, dust, clean, scrub, and mop floors in classrooms, kitchens, toilet rooms, offices and similar facilities
● Remove spots from floors, walls, woodwork, furniture and fixtures
● Clean whiteboards
● Clean and dust glass, furniture, fixtures and other installations
● Wash and scrub walls, restroom fixtures, inside glass, windows, painted surfaces, and drinking fountains
● Sanitize refrigerators/microwaves
● Operate equipment such as floor polishing and scrubbing machines, wall washing machines, steam shampooers, vacuum cleaners, yard vacuums, lawn edger, weed eaters, and power sweepers
● Service soap dispensers, towel boxes, and similar facilities
● Sweep and hose blacktops, playgrounds, sidewalks and parkways
● Replace electrical plug fuses, incandescent bulbs, and fluorescent tubes
● Move and adjust chairs, desks, tables, other furniture and equipment
● Prepare rooms for meetings
● Assist in providing security for building and grounds
● Escort authorized and unauthorized persons in and from buildings and grounds
● Gather and dispose of rubbish, paper, leaves, and debris
● Empty and wash refuse containers
● Comply with mandatory reporter requirements
● Comply with all school safety procedures and drills
● Ensure that the classroom is safe and clean
● Use technology, the Internet, and software applications effectively and efficiently to carry out duties
● Maintain regular and punctual attendance
Qualifications
In order to be considered for this position at New LA, candidates must:
● Have experience working in school facilities;
● Past experience in the trade is a plus;
● Bilingual in English and Spanish;
● Be flexible and be a team player;
● Be a self-starter;
● Go the extra mile in order to meet the educational needs of our students;
● Have a positive outlook, enjoy collaborating with colleagues;
● Basic computer skills.
COMPENSATION
New LA offers a competitive hourly rate starting at $18.60 based on experience. Staff members also receive a generous package of medical benefits, including a 403B plan.
