Jewish Council for Youth Services (JCYS) is a 116-year-old, Chicago-based nonprofit agency that provides early childhood education and camp programs to children of all religions, races, and ethnicities across Chicagoland.
We are looking for an experienced kitchen person to join our team as a Kitchen Manager/Food Service worker in our Wicker Park center! This person primary responsibility is to prepare and serve food to children at our facility.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain a current Food Manager training certificate

Receiving food/supplies daily

Taking food temps and logging temps for health department

Organizing and putting away supplies
-
Logging warmer, refrigerator, freezer, sanitizer temps and sanitizer chemical balances daily

Reporting any malfunctioning equipment to Center Director and Maintenance

Prepping and separating food for morning/afternoon snack and lunch

Preparing food for special events and holidays

Oversight of Kosher style food service (no mixing of meat and dairy & no shellfish or pork)

Clean-up kitchen duties include:

Sanitizing dishes and trays from snacks and lunch

Prepping garbage for removal
-
Wiping down and sanitizing kitchen surfaces like counters, equipment, and storage

Cleaning up of any spills
-
Sweeping floor for any food debris
-
Organizing kitchen area to optimize space and cleanliness
-
Maintaining kitchen inventory and ordering
-
Maintain standards of safety, cleanliness and sanitation of food and equipment always

Assisting teachers with dishes and laundry

Subbing in classrooms as needed
Qualifications:
-
High School Diploma or equivalent
-
2-3 years of kitchen experience

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

A love for children
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; stand; walk and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
