Job Summary: Responsible for installing, modifying, repairing and maintaining non-vehicle company property that can include mechanical, electrical or plumbing tasks.
Essential Job Duties/Functions
- Follows written and oral instructions from maintenance manager to determine daily work order priority.
- Communicates with maintenance manager and plant personnel to determine the most cost effective and timely approach to complete a work order.
- Observes, assesses and dismantles equipment to determine cause of malfunction and appropriate process and materials needed to repair in most cost effective and time efficient way.
- Orders, requests or retrieves parts as needed or required to fix or repair equipment according to specifications.
- Installs parts or equipment according to specifications.
- Travels to plant or company-owned locations to perform maintenance and repairs as needed or required.
- Communicates with plant personnel to identify and clarify issues or problems.
- Communicates with plant personnel to gather and verify information and to advise of expected repair time and cost.
- Operates equipment after completing repair(s) or installation to ensure satisfactory completion, resolution or operation.
- Maintains neat and professional personal appearance.
- Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) as required or needed.
- Maintains orderly work area wiping up spills, neatly storing parts and tools, properly discarding old or unused parts and materials, sweeping area and confining repair process to as minimum amount of space as is safe and practical.
- Follows established company policies and guidelines for safety, quality and customer service.
- Communicates with maintenance manager and plant managers by two-way radio or telephone to advise of issues, problems or questions.
- Maintains current knowledge of equipment and facilities needed to diagnose, fix, repair or replace equipment.
- Maintains hand and power tools in good repair.
- Consults with other maintenance employees as needed to discuss problems or questions with any particular process or procedure or to ask for assistance.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or other management employees.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Experience
- HS Diploma or equivalent required. Prefer additional training or education in equipment or building maintenance areas.
- Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience preferably in a plant or manufacturing environment performing diagnostic repairs.
- Prefer some specialized training and certification in mechanical, electrical or plumbing discipline.
- Current, valid driver’s license required.
- Current, valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) preferred.
- Satisfactory driving and criminal record required.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions (written and oral) and work independently.
- Must be able to read, speak, write and understand English.
- Must be able to distinguish colors.

- Occasional crawling and lying on back and stomach.
Environmental Conditions (Personal protective equipment is provided where required or requested)
- Majority of work is performed outdoors.
- Exposure to elements of weather to include extremes in heat, humidity, cold, dust and moisture for extended periods.
- Occasionally/frequently exposed to rough, muddy, icy and uneven surface conditions.
- Intermittent exposure to high noise levels and vibration.
- Frequent exposure to cement, concrete, admixtures, dust, diesel fuel, lubricants and other substances that may cause burns, be toxic or explosive if handled incorrectly.
