Job Responsibilities
· Create precise and detailed estimates for bid invitations
· Promptly respond to leads and indicate if bidding or not
· Assist with maintaining good relationships with current customers
· Assist with pre-qualifying potential new customers, ensuring not to pursue work with customers without approval of management
· Attend pre-bid job walks as required for project bids
· Systematically and accurately take all projects through the estimating process, including assisting with design – build projects as needed
· Initiate communication with engineers and GC’s as needed for clarification on scope, specifications, and other installation requirements
· Request and compile all sub-contractor and vendor quotes in the estimate folder, ensuring compliance with company purchasing policies and procedures.
· Assist with maintaining good relationships with all subcontractors and vendors
· Contact utility companies as needed for clarity on scope and requirements for all projects bid, staying up to date on changes required by all power companies in middle TN.
· Verify permit costs with AHJ’s as required for all projects bid
· Create clear and precise proposals to send to our customers on or before bid dates
· Ensure all projects are looked at by at least one other member of the commercial projects team before they are sent. This will help eliminate potential mistakes in the estimate.
· Systematically follow up on all bids sent until we receive an awarded or lost status.
· Update tracking spreadsheets daily for all projects bid and feedback received from customers
· Promptly participate in hand-off meetings as required
· Ensure accurate and uniform estimate folders for all projects bid
· Assist with scope clarification and pricing breakout exercises as needed from customers and management.
· Provide estimating support for change orders as needed
· Update labor rates and return percentages in estimating software as directed by management
· Ensure the materials database is accurate and up-to-date.
Job Qualifications
· Prior experience as an estimator with a construction-focused electrical contractor highly preferred.
· Knowledge of electrical codes and requirements for installation
· Advanced computer skills including strong familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and estimating software
· Strong organizational skills
· Expert level attention to detail
