POSITION SUMMARY
Join BEI Hawaii’s leading distributor of agricultural and industrial chemicals, fertilizer and specialty products. Under general supervision of the VP of Operations and the Hilo Inventory/Receiving Coordinator, and possession of a Class A CDL with X endorsement, operates a diesel tractor/truck to transport liquid products in tankers/ISO containers, and general bulk or packaged products. Loads trailer to fulfill other hauling requirements such as container spotting, trailer load hauling, and other hauling as required to deliver products to customers. Manual and mechanical unloading of products as required. CDL driver must be tested and licensed to drive manual transmission (non synchronized transmission). Assists with warehousing when not driving.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Delivers products to customers.
2. Keeps Inventory and Receiving Coordinator informed of all problems and unusual situations encountered at customer locations and during the loading and discharge process.
3. Maintains assigned tractor/truck in good operating condition by conducting daily checks to include proper inflation of tires, adding water, filling diesel, and checking oil levels.
4. Prepares daily vehicle inspection reports and reports all detected defects to the Inventory and Receiving Coordinator.
5. May perform minor mechanical repairs to tractor/truck as necessary; reports corrective action taken to Inventory and Receiving Coordinator.
6. Maintains required logs and reports as specified in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR).
7. Maintains good housekeeping in assigned general work area as well as assigned tractor/truck.
8. Maintains and promotes positive customer and public relations.
9. Reports to Inventory and Receiving Coordinator upon completion of assigned duties in order to obtain subsequent job assignments; may include warehousing, maintenance or other delivery duties.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Class A Commercial Driver’s License with hazardous materials and tanker (X) endorsements; also requires minimum of one-year tractor/truck driving experience and a good driving record.
2. CDL driver must be tested and licensed to drive manual transmission (non synchronized transmission)
3. Knowledgeable in methods and procedures specified under the following parts of the FMCSR: Part 391-Qualification of Drivers (Subparts B, C, D, E, & F [as applicable]); Part 392-Driving of Motor Vehicles (Subparts A, B, C, D, E, F & G); Part 393-Parts and Accessories Necessary for Safe Operation; Part 394- Notification, Reporting and Recording of Accidents; and Part 395-Hours of Service for Drivers.
4. Minimum of one-year experience operating a high-lift/forklift in warehousing activities and possession of a current certification.
5. Ability to read, speak, and understand the English language; necessary for understanding and conveyance of potential product hazards.
6. Knowledge of streets and locations on Big Island is helpful.
7. Basic mechanical aptitude; understanding of use and care of all assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles.
8. Ability to work independently and perform repetitive work or to continuously perform the same work according to set procedures, sequence, or pace.
9. Ability to read all equipment gauges, make correct judgments in the operation of equipment, and be able to accurately record information.
Physical demands
1. Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs. Ability to maneuver 500 – 700 lb. drums.
2. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
3. Eye-foot coordination in accordance with visual stimuli.
4. Ability to push and/or pull levers and/or pedals as in operating a manual transmission vehicle, high-lift/forklift, opening chutes, or controlling valves.
5. Ability to climb, ascend, or descend stairs.
6. Ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, sitting, and crouching.
7. Stooping: able to bend the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist.
8. Crouching: able to bend the body downward and forward by bending the legs and spine.
9. Ability to move (by rolling) cylinders weighing up to 250 lbs.
10. Ability to wear a respirator for emergency response situations.
Rate: $27.19/hour
