Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital is a 35-bed rural acute care hospital located in Waimea (Kamuela), Hawaii Island. More than 300 employees and over a dozen employed physicians staff the main hospital, as well the outpatient clinics located in the Lucy Henriques Medical Center, at our Primary Care Clinic located near Longs Drugs, and at our Specialty Clinic located in the Parker Ranch Center.

JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs tasks of registration, admission, receipt of insurance information and other select duties associated with inpatient, outpatient, and Emergency Room services.
- Performs and coordinates administrative and clerical support functions to facilitate delivery of effective and efficient patient care on the unit/department.
- Fulfills duties of a PBX operator “after hours.” Relays and expedites incoming, outgoing, and interoffice calls for the department and hospital. Functions as the communication center for security, team leaders, supervisors, physicians, and plays a key role in emergency response communications.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Seeing, hearing, speaking, finger dexterity, standing, sitting, walking.
- Continuous: stooping/bending; reaching above, at, and below shoulder level.
- Frequent: lifting and carrying weight up to 15 pounds.
- Occasional: lifting usual weight up to 50 pounds.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
- May be exposed to body fluids from specimens
- May be exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, and illnesses). Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.
- Required Personal Protective Equipment: Mask and non-sterile gloves advised when handling specimens or when there is a possibility to body fluid exposure. Understands OSHA requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Six (6) months medical office, admissions or insurance billing experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, third party payer regulations and financial requirements.
Experience to demonstrate the following:
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Good interpersonal skills and telephone etiquette.
- Knowledge and skills in use of general office equipment.
- Ability to work under changing situations and interruptions.
- Ability to maintain highly sensitive, confidential material.
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and local collection regulations preferred.
Pay: $17.98 - $20.49 per hour
