POSITION: FARM MANAGER
Non-exempt/full-time
Summary: Responsible for program oversight and management of the growing grounds at MudTown Farms and its satellite sites including all farm production-related activities, providing direct supervision and support to farm assistants, apprentices, and working closely with other staff and volunteers who provide educational programming on-site. MudTown Farms is a 2.5-acre site in the heart of the Watts community. Responsibilities include Plan and implement crop production, rotation, harvest schedules, growing techniques; Develop systems to track crop planning, bed rotation, and yields; operation and maintenance of irrigation systems; train, instruct staff and volunteers; Assist with refining curriculum of the Watts Certified Grower’s Certification Program.
Qualifications: Four years’ experience managing a farm or farm programs in an urban setting, demonstrated experience with farm machinery operation and working with a low stress livestock operation and performing duties such as fence building and maintenance is required. Four years or more in supervision of staff and program oversight. Self-motivated, cooperative, and flexible, ability to work independently; experience using organic/biodynamic principles; Familiar with indigenous growing practices and crops; Experience working with farm machinery, carpentry skills, and interest in working with youth and diverse populations, Fluent in English and Spanish speaking a plus.
Compensation based on experience: $ 45,760-52,000/yr.
