Job Overview:
An ophthalmic technician provides essential support to ophthalmologists by performing a variety of tasks, including preliminary eye exams, refraction, diagnostic testing, and patient care. This role is critical in ensuring the smooth operation of the ophthalmology clinic and delivering high-quality patient services. We operate out of two different locations to provide quality healthcare in both Hollywood and Sweetwater.
Key Responsibilities:
-Patient Interaction: Greet patients, obtain medical histories, and document pertinent information in medical records.
-Pre-Exam Tests:Conduct preliminary eye exams, including visual acuity tests, refraction, and tonometry to measure intraocular pressure.
- Diagnostic Procedures: Perform specialized diagnostic tests such as visual field testing, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and fundus photography.
- Equipment Handling:Calibrate and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment, ensuring they are in proper working order.
- Assisting Procedures:Assist the ophthalmologist during examinations and minor surgical procedures by preparing instruments and providing patient care.
- Patient Education:Explain procedures and tests to patients, answer questions, and provide instructions for follow-up care.
- Record Keeping:Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and privacy standards.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; certification from an accredited ophthalmic technician program is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience as an ophthalmic technician or in a related field is preferred.
- Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team. Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Certifications: Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)
