The Boston University Medical Campus (BUMC) – Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Global Psychiatry Clinical Research Training Program (T32) is a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) funded three-year postdoctoral fellowship that seeks to address the critical shortage of advanced
training opportunities for young investigators in the field of global psychiatry and mental health.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The BUMC-MGH Global Psychiatry Clinical Research Training Program is seeking postdoctoral fellows who will receive three years of dedicated mentorship to develop an independent research project under the guidance and supervision of international and U.S.-based primary mentors in collaboration with other faculty members. The fellows will attend didactic lectures, research seminars, journal clubs, and scientific meetings that supplement this research experience. This learn-by-doing approach, combined with the appropriate educational training, provides the critical skills needed for successful career development. Graduates of the program are prepared to serve as leaders in global mental health, and are equipped to compete for individual training support and faculty positions in academia.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Initiates and participates in the design, execution and evaluation of innovative mental health research projects. Manages ongoing research projects or sections of research projects initiated by the principal investigator that focus on mechanisms.
- Prepares and assists with the preparation of research proposals to federal agencies, foundations, and pharmaceutical companies.
- Coordinates/collaborates in grant writing efforts with designated individuals from other sections, departments, or international institutions.
- Develops analysis plans, drafts statistical analysis for descriptive statistics and advanced analysis techniques, compiles data, maintains databases, creates summary tables and writes summaries of results.
- Using current methodological designs and performs scientific experiments and provides individual progress reports to mentor. Investigates other methodologies and compares them to the current methods for evaluation of expense and ease of use.
- Authors and/or collaborates with other research staff in the preparation of peer-reviewed journal articles, reports and abstract submissions and poster presentations. Prepares and gives presentations to regional, state, national, and international audiences on research program development, experiences and results.
Departmental & Administrative Duties:

Assists in the training and evaluation of research technicians, students and support personnel.
- Participates in the development and review of the research budget as it relates to specific areas of research initiative.
- Participates in a bimonthly research meeting for the department’s staff interested in research. Participates in a monthly journal club for the laboratory/section.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
-
MD or PhD with preferred exposure to clinical research.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Demonstrated commitment and enthusiasm towards a research career.
- Ability to be self-directed, to prioritize essential tasks, and to balance numerous responsibilities.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in collaboration with a variety of individuals, including research scientists, clinicians, and administrators.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) and web browsers. Experience with statistical analysis tools preferred.

This position is grant funded through 6/30/2029. There may be opportunity beyond this grant funding for position integration into ongoing operations.
