SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To serve as an active interdisciplinary member of psychiatric patient units to work with unit-based teams (Psychiatrist/Prescribing NPs, Psychologist, Creative Art Therapist, Peer Counselors, Occupational Therapist, Nursing, Behavior Health Associates, etc.) in developing appropriate treatment plans (e.g., engagement plans, individual behavioral plans (IBP), etc.) to aid in milieu management and/or to engage challenging patients.
- To develop appropriate treatment plans via various intervention modalities (e.g. individual sessions/individual counseling sessions, group programming, functional assessments, behavioral modification plan, etc.) for referred patients and monitor progress.
- To function as a critical member of the day-to-day milieu management and assist in the moments when individuals are experiencing a behavioral crisis; to assist unit staff as needed in following treatment plans as written and provide support using patient-centered, trauma-informed care
- To attend all clinical and departmental staff meetings (e.g., daily morning unit huddle, treatment team meetings, tier meetings, etc.)
- To provide ongoing training to staff working on the unit about behavioral management and other strategies to ensure all staff are trained on how to use behavioral interventions and handle daily difficult situations that might occur.
- To provide direct clinical patient care and mental health services under the supervision of a licensed psychologist/psychiatrist in various modalities, including, individual therapeutic groups, psychotherapy, family therapy, group therapy, etc.; To lead individual and small group social skills groups.
- To conduct training with parents/guardians, community stakeholders, and staff in various inpatient and outpatient contexts.
- Other job duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1. A valid License or Limited Permit issued by the New York State Education Department to practice as a Mental Health Counselor.
