Position Summary:
Electrophysiology tech performs invasive diagnostic and interventional electrophysiology procedures. He/she is responsible for the operation and quality assurance of image processing, patient monitoring and the x-ray equipment. The electrophysiology technologist participates in the daily activities of the lab by assisting scrub and monitor roles.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Current ACLS and BCLS. Experience with invasive diagnostic, interventional cardiology, and electrophysiology procedures. Ability to assess patient needs correctly and take appropriate action. Thorough knowledge of medications, emergency procedures and medical equipment. Can initiate appropriate emergency actions within scope of practice and law. Ability to work with personnel of varied training/backgrounds, i.e. rad. Tech, nurse, cardiovascular tech, etc. Good oral and written communication skills. Maintains composure during high stress situations. Knowledge of and ability to operate x-ray and patient monitoring equipment. Flexibility with work schedule.
Required Education, Licenses, and Certifications:
- Current ACLS, BCLS, and completion of radiologic technology and cardiovascular technology program with current certification in ARRT and/or RCIS.
- Cardiovascular Interventional (CV) or Vascular Interventional (VI) registry required.
- VI registry eligible individuals will have two (2) years to acquire registry.
- Failure to gain CV/VI registry within 2 years will result in termination of employment.
Other Information:
Good hearing; ability to speak clearly; visual acuity; motor coordination and manual dexterity. Good physical and mental stamina to perform duties and responsibilities. Work is medium to heavy. Work requires moving of equipment and patients, and exposure to ionizing radiation. Ability to lift 100 lbs with frequent lift/carry objects up to 50 lbs. Wears lead lined apron for extended periods of time. May be subject to occupational exposure including skin, eye, mucous membrane or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material during patient contact. Moderate to high amount stress from heavy patient scheduling, interaction with physicians and type of patient not limited to unstable patient conditions.
